Justin Fields comes across as a level-headed, down-to-earth young man. He is more mature than somebody his age should be. Though 24, he acts like somebody already in his early 30s. That helps to explain why the quarterback somehow weathered the brutal storm of last season with the Chicago Bears. All those losses and the many sacks would’ve broken other men. He battled through it and still managed to play good football for significant stretches of the season. Now the Bears are working to make life easier for him. They’ve improved his arsenal of weapons while making the first of multiple tweaks to his protection.
Fans are hopeful Fields can take the next step in his development. This city thirsts for a franchise quarterback. He’s the closest they’ve come since the brief flashes of Jay Cutler in 2010 and 2011. As the off-season approaches its zenith of the NFL draft, Fields took time to let people into his human side during an interview with GQ Sports. He answered questions about ten things in life he can’t live without. There were some obvious choices: football, family, his dog, and his sunglasses. There is also his music.
It was here Fields let people in on a little secret. Before sports took over his life as a teenager, he had a different dream in mind.

Justin Fields has more personality than people think.
While he may not show much of it from the way he speaks on camera, there are plenty of instances where it comes through. He is an avid dancer, as locker room videos have confirmed from his time at Ohio State. He isn’t afraid to give strong pre-game speeches to teammates, showcasing his competitive side. He’s also not afraid to talk trash. He’ll jaw with teammates all the time in practice, ragging on them whenever they make mistakes or don’t execute plays properly. It is a big reason why teammates love him.
This is a reminder that for all the amazing things he does on the football field, Justin Fields is still a normal person. He had different dreams as a kid, like everybody else. That said, imagining him on that American Idol stage is difficult. He doesn’t strike you at first glance as the singing type. Then again, many of them don’t until they get on stage. Maybe he will give Bears fans a glimpse of that talent someday.
They can then send Claypool and #61 to the Cardinals for D-Hop and a fifth along with a 3rd next year. This draft is deep with above servicable type starters in #25 through #60 range. We pick up Wright at #17 then we come back at #47 and draft the d-lineman from Northwestern. Voila! The receiving room gets that much deeper;
Only song I wanna hear these guys sing is the “Superbowl Shuffle”. Ha ha.
I love these little stories, good job Erik. Would love to see more of these on other Bears players, free agents, veteran players, maybe even the coach. I like Justin Fields, he seems a lot more humble than I gave him credit for, I love the swagger as well as the down to earth personality traits, he is young with a lot to learn from the point of an NFL QB, but I truly believe that he is not going to be overwhelmed and will start to prove any critics of his game wrong, this young man is tough and… Read more »
