Justin Fields Opens Up About Game-Changing Missed Opportunity With Tyler Scott

-

In the closing moments of the fourth quarter during week 11, a huge play unfolded against the Detroit Lions. On a crucial 3rd and 9, Justin Fields correctly read the defense and attempted a deep pass to rookie wide receiver Tyler Scott. Although Fields delivered an almost perfect throw, Scott seemed to hesitate momentarily, ultimately preventing him from making the catch.

On Wednesday, Justin Fields spoke with the media and responded to a great question from Chicago Sun-Times reporter Mark Potash. The question focused on the significance, from Fields perspective, of keeping Tyler Scott involved and maintaining faith in him within the offense. Fields response was impressive, showcasing strong support for his teammate.

“I’m not losing faith in him.. I’m going to keep going back to him. He’s going to be a great receiver. He’s Got a lot of room to grow. He’s talented even now. He’s made a lot of plays for us this year. Offense, special teams … He had a tough game, but we’ve all had tough games. As a football player, you have tough games. I’ve had a lot of tough games. It does nothing but make me better, make him better.”

Justin Fields is a true leader in the locker room

When it comes to being a quarterback in the NFL, leadership is essential both on the field and in the locker room. Justin Fields exemplifies this quality and more. Fields concluded his answer with another impactful quote that showcases his faith and belief in Tyler Scott.

He’s not going to let one, two, three games define who he is as a player so I have full faith in Tyler. Everybody else does, too.

Ultimately, you have to step up and make key plays when your team needs them the most. This will serve as a valuable learning experience for the rookie wide receiver. His number will be called again. Let’s hope he can deliver when the time comes.

@Dr.Melhus – focusing on Velus Jones is important. The Bears have not had very good QB position coaches, but their receivers coaches haven’t been good for years. Ever decent receiver comes as free agent or in a trade – meaning they’ve been coached elsewhere. The “talent” of speed has always been attractive, but getting them into top level receiver categories has been bad coaching. Velus Jones is the current issue, but Alshon Jeffrey, Kevin White, and Johnny Knox were earlier iterations. Even going back to the promise of Willie Gault, the Bears haven’t gotten to the full potential. Not even… Read more »

David: TGena does say some positive things. He was very complimentary about choosing Eberflus as a head coach, and he claims Larry Borom has a bright future with the Bears, because he has the best feet of any offensive lineman on the team, and his PFF grades in the preseason were very strong. He also has said that Darnell Wright was a good draft pick, which I think is something almost all of us can agree with. It’s good to have a bunch of different voices in the room, otherwise we all fall into groupthink. I disagree with Gena a… Read more »

you act like you are the most miserable person. Been seeing your comments on here for a long, long time and I honestly can’t recall anything you’ve ever said that was positive, or even just educational or neutral. You don’t even comment about your opinion on anything. It’s always bashing someone with any opportunity you get.

Not sure if you’ve been picked on growing up or what but there’s definitely something behind it. Lighten up bro. Say something worth reading every once in a while. You might actually receive some positive feedback.

On the flip side, I also like how Fields got into Freeny’s face when he didn’t hike the ball and forced a delay of game penalty. That’s something I haven’t seen from Fields since he was drafted. It’s always good for a leader to give support to his teammates. Especially in front of the media. It’s one of the reasons why they love him. But there are times when you can’t coddle them either and will have to get in their face. It doesn’t mean you have to be a jerk about it. But sometimes you have to nip it… Read more »
