In just five days, the Chicago Bears will kick off their 2023 season at home against the Green Bay Packers. The winner of this game will set the tone for the new era of this historic rivalry, with bragging rights on the line. It’s more than just another game that some make it out to be. Bears quarterback, Justin Fields, understands this. He emphasized the significance of this game in an interview with the Chicago Tribune’s Dan Wiederer.
“The first game, playing Green Bay, that’s an opportunity to start this off on the right foot. That’s an opportunity to make a statement to where the season’s going to go. Of course, we haven’t beat them in a while. So it’ll be good to start the year off strong with them, getting that win and just continuing to get better from there. I’m excited for it.”
I personally love Justin’s mindset, and I think the Bears should adopt this fresh mentality as they aim to change the narrative in a rivalry that has been one-sided for the past 15-20 years.
Bears Open Up As Slight Favorites
According to DraftKings, the Bears open as one-point favorites at home. Considering their recent struggles against Green Bay, this initial line appears reasonable. However, the Bears should have a great chance of winning this game. They’re playing at home and seem to finally have the better quarterback, which is a refreshing change. While Jordan Love is promising, his limited experience and few live game reps, may work against him when playing this Bears defense. Regardless of the outcome, next Monday will provide both teams with valuable information for where each of their quarterback truly stands.
