Every quarterback is different from a personality standpoint. They all can’t be handled the same way. That is often the mistake many coaches make when trying to develop one. The preferences of one differ from others. That is especially true when it comes to the coaching they respond to. Some prefer a more lenient approach. They don’t feel they need someone breathing down their neck all the time. Others, like Justin Fields, hold the opposite point of view.
Two things became clear about the Chicago Bears’ new quarterback when he arrived in 2021. First, he wanted to be great. That is his mission. Nothing less than being one of the best in NFL history is acceptable to him. The second was his work ethic. Fields is relentless in that regard. He is willing to make any sacrifice necessary to improve his mind and body for the game.
If there is one thing he can’t stand, it’s people trying to coddle him. He sees it as a dangerous way to end up weak. Fields explained this to Dan Wiederer on the Take The North podcast. He doesn’t care if Matt Eberflus and the coaches are tough on him. If anything, he prefers it that way. That is the only avenue to get better in his mind.
Justin Fields has no intention of coasting on talent.
That was ingrained in him from a young age. He was almost always the most gifted athlete on the field through high school and college. Yet he never let that go to his head. His parents made sure to instill a grounded mentality in him. Nothing can substitute for hard work. Considering his success to this point, it’s easy to understand why he believes in such a philosophy. His coaches have granted his wish, staying on him constantly about every facet of his game, from footwork to throwing motion to decision-making and so on.

Early returns are promising. He finished the preseason with 23-of-30 with three touchdowns and no turnovers. It was the cleanest he’s played as a professional to date. That offers hope he is trending in the right direction. Justin Fields isn’t intimidated by the NFL anymore. He’s seen the best and worst it has to offer. Now the counterattack begins. The grind continues, and he knows he will get the results he wants with enough time.
I just wish this young man could have met Walter Payton.
Football at Arlington.
Are you that brainwashed. The extremist right shows it’s ignorance once again.
He could have played in the old days with Parcells, Ditka etc. Nice to hear he takes all feedback regardless, even if someone gets in his face.
No Int. and No fumbles. What’s not to love about those stats after the doom and gloom naysayers last season and some still this year?
Yeah. He’s not a liberal who needs to be held and say it’s all going to be ok as long as we spend $5 trillion on fake new green energy.
Go Bears.
