Justin Fields And Darnell Mooney Already Showing Strong Connection In Camp

-

The Bears held their first training camp practice today however it was closed to the public. Only the beat reporters had access in today’s session and we are already getting interesting reports regarding both the offense and defense. A recent article from The Athletic’s Kevin Fishbain and Adam Jahns revealed that Justin Fields and Darnell Mooney’s off-season work already seems to be showing early in camp.

“One of Fields’ best throws of the day was a touchdown to Mooney on the run. Fields also opened up team drills hitting Mooney for a long pass down the right sideline.”

Just a few days ago we learned that Fields and Mooney had been going to Halas Hall later in the evenings. They set out to get in extra reps to help build their chemistry and ultimately get better. Sometimes staying as late as 10 PM. I know it’s only day one and the start of a very long (but fun) training camp but I can’t help but crack a little bit of a smile. From the day Mooney was drafted, I had a feeling he was going to be a special type of player in this league. Peep the date on the tweet.

I think a lot of people shared a similar view but to see his production in 2021 and now the extra work he’s clearly put in this off-season, it’s exciting to think about what he will do in 2022.

Now It’s Time For Consistency

Justin Fields is probably one of the most talented quarterbacks I’ve seen rep a Bears jersey. With that being said, time and time again we’ve seen Bears quarterbacks be inconsistent in both practice and training camp. Good day followed up with a bad day. What I want is for Justin to show progress day in, day out. I want him to dominant. To see that he is already having success right out the gate is great news. Now it’s all about stacking days. It will be interesting to see how Fields connection with Mooney grows throughout camp as right now Mooney is clearly the Bears number one wide receiver unless they make a trade here soon.

DK Metcalf Watch

A trade that might still be on the table is one with Seattle for DK Metcalf. Adam Schefter reported today that Metcalf did not show for camp in Seattle. The dream is still alive as I wrote earlier last month, a pairing of Metcalf and Fields along with Mooney would be absolutely lethal. It will be a situation obviously worth monitoring as the Seahawks have a hole at RB with Chris Carson’s surprising retirement announcement earlier in the week. Perhaps shop Montgomery and a couple seconds? Maybe it takes a first? Just spit balling here. Either way, training camp is finally here which means football is officially back.

Let’s ride.

2 things here … 1 is that i keep telling folks Metcalf is on record as saying he does not want to play for a cold weather team ! He turned down that idea when asked what about KC as a destination ? To that he simply said they are a cold weather team and he has zero interest ! So why would he even consider a long term time in a Bears uni ?? 2 the cost in both dollars and pics would set team back once other big contracts would come up like Fields ETC !

As long as they don’t dangle a 1st rounder for DK, I’m cool with a trade.
