Josh McCown has a folk hero status in Chicago Bears history. He was a quality backup for the team in the early 2010s and played the best stretch of football at the quarterback position this franchise has seen in decades. From October 20th through December 22nd of 2013, he threw for 1,829 yards, 13 touchdowns, and only one interception. He also added a rushing touchdown. It was so much fun to watch. After that, he was gone. Many still wonder if the Bears made the right decision going with Jay Cutler rather than sticking with him.
Finally, after nine years of frustration, fans are starting to see somebody else reach a similar level as McCown did. That is Justin Fields. Over the past five weeks, he’s accounted for 1100 total yards, 11 touchdowns, and only two interceptions. Keep in mind he’s been doing it without Brandon Marshall, Alshon Jeffery, Martellus Bennett, and Matt Forte as his array of weapons. McCown had the opportunity to evaluate Fields’ breakout performance against Miami for Underdog Fantasy with Josh Norris.
While the entire video is tremendous, his sequence covering the 61-yard touchdown run was by far the highlight of the show.
Josh McCown sees a bright future for the Bears.
He explained throughout the video that Fields’ success isn’t solely thanks to his athleticism. He’s made significant strides as a passer too. The game is slowing down for him. He makes better reads and better decisions. The trick is continuing to master the offense and getting more pieces around him that are above average or better. That process remains ongoing. GM Ryan Poles continues making preparations for an important 2023 off-season.

One can only hope Josh McCown breaks more Fields videos down in the future. He is an absolute natural at it. That isn’t a surprise. The guy was universally beloved by teammates, coaches, and fans. He has two decades of playing experience under his belt. The Houston Texans even considered him for their head coaching position. His football mind is excellent. Combine that with a great personality, and you get priceless moments like this.

I agree. If he's unemployed I'm sure he'd take it. I think he'd be great at it as well. He pretty much knows every type of offense there is by the back of his hand and he could mix and match to create his own offense to throw defenses off.
When Luke leaves for a HC gig, maybe Poles should speed dial McCown. JMO.
