Jay Cutler Arrested With A Gun In Tennessee

-

Retired life was pretty much going well for Jay Cutler. He’d put together a productive NFL career, made millions of dollars, and could leave a leisurely existence for the rest of his life. Unfortunately, such complacency can often lead to some bad decisions. A big one befell the former Chicago Bears quarterback this week. According to TMZ, Cutler was arrested in Franklin, Tennessee, for Driving Under the Influence (DUI). If that weren’t bad enough, police hit him with three other charges, including possession of a handgun.

“Jay Cutler spent time in a Tennessee jail Thursday after he was busted for driving while intoxicated and gun possession … TMZ has learned.

The former NFL star and ex-husband of Kristin Cavallari was arrested for DUI and 3 other offenses Thursday evening in the city of Franklin, TN. The other crimes were failure to exercise due care, violation of implied consent law, and possession of a handgun while under the influence.”

Cutler posted a $5,000 bail after the incident. Depending on the severity of the incident, the DUI alone could result in a two-year jail sentence. The handgun would add another two years. His refusal to submit to a chemical test probably didn’t help his case at all. Then again, that isn’t a surprise. Cutler was always standoffish as a person throughout his NFL career. While he didn’t resist arrest, he likely felt he wasn’t anywhere close to drunk.

Jay Cutler should avoid jail time.

This is his first recorded incident involving the law. Usually, in these cases, the punishment is on the lighter side. Repeat offenders end up serving jail time. Jay Cutler was quarterback for the Bears from 2009 through 2016. He led them to the NFC championship in 2010 and holds every franchise career passing record. Even so, many look upon his time in Chicago as a disappointment. Considering what the team gave up to get him (multiple 1st round picks), his time was mostly known for inconsistency and controversies. That said, the guy never lacked toughness and battled through some dark periods in franchise history. He deserves respect for that. Seeing him fall like this isn’t easy.

Harrison Graham, host of the Chat Sports ‘Bears Now’ YouTube channel, has a rumor meter scale based on Smokin’ Jays, which uses a head and shoulders shot of Cutler smoking a cigarette. Now he’s going to have to replace it with Cutler holding a revolver with smoke coming out of the barrel.

Since when were football players, generally, ever considered very intelligent, educated, rational, ethical, moral, respectful, responsible, modest, humble, law-abiding citizens, whether they had money or not?
