Jaquan Brisker Got Brutally Snubbed In Rookie Of The Year Rankings

-

The Chicago Bears‘ defense was always going to regress this year. A unit doesn’t lose a vast array of veteran talent as they did and not get worse. It was hoped that an infusion of young guys might lead to some individual standouts. That appears to be the case. Dominique Robinson flashes pass rush potential as a situational guy. Jack Sanborn unexpectedly emerged as a viable middle linebacker despite going undrafted. However, by far the most significant revelation this year is safety Jaquan Brisker.

The 2nd round pick out of Penn State arrived with little fanfare in April. He promised that Chicago got the steal of the draft. People thought he was psyching himself up. That he wasn’t serious. They were mistaken. Brisker established himself as a presence immediately. He stood out in training camp and the preseason. By the end of August, it was a foregone conclusion that he’d be a starter alongside Eddie Jackson. Through the first ten games of the season, Brisker has been excellent. His playmaking skill is undeniable. Yet the wider NFL hasn’t taken notice.

If you don’t believe that, look at the latest Defensive Rookie of the Year rankings according to Larry Holder of The Athletic.

Jaquan Brisker has been snubbed to a ridiculous degree.

Now Gardner, Wollen, Hutchinson, and Jones being on the list is no surprise. Those four have absolutely earned their spots with their productive play. It’s Thibodeaux and Walker that should have Bears fans irate. Thibodeaux has one sack and 18 tackles this season. Walker has 2.5 sacks, 36 tackles, and an interception this season. Brisker has three sacks, 62 tackles, and an interception this season. He also has more tackles for a loss than either player. Yet they’re getting the attention from the national media.

It’s little wonder Jaquan Brisker is upset about this.

This young man is an excellent player. If he’s this effective as a rookie, imagine how much better he’ll be with more experience and better teammates around him. Matt Eberflus has a proven history of elevating safeties during his long coaching career. The Mike Brown comparisons weren’t lofty. Brisker has a chance to be exactly that kind of presence on the back end for this team.

WTF?! He is honestly our best Defender now that Ro is gone. And yes, I’m giving him that honor over JJ and BoJack. BIG SNUB RIGHT THERE!!! Yes, there are some lapses in coverage, but you can see him learning and ascending.

Bears down-If, and that’s a big word.If you indeed, are watching the games, then you’re clearly watching only where the ball goes, and not what Brisker is doing.
