Is It Time To Worry About Chicago Bears Injuries?

-

The list of players who had to sit out during Wednesday’s practice was shocking:

Eddie Jackson – Jaquan Brisker – Chase Claypool – Velus Jones Jr. – Josh Blackwell – DeMarquis Gates – Dylan Cole – Lucas Patrick – Nate Davis – DeMarcus Walker – Trestan Ebner – Jaylon Jones – Teven Jenkins – Joe Reed – Marcedes Lewis – Yannick Ngakoue – Raheem Green – DeMarcus Walker – Darnell Wright.

Late in yesterday’s session, TE Cole Kmet left practice. Cody Whitehair practiced at guard; his right hand was wrapped, so he could not snap the ball. Whitehair’s primary backup at center, the oft-injured Lucas Patrick, was sidelined, giving Doug Kramer 1st team reps.

Fortunately, their first regular season game is 17 days from now, so there is time to get most if not all, players healthy. Only Teven Jenkin’s lower leg issues may keep him out of the lineup when Chicago hosts Green Bay on September 10th.

The injuries to the starting offensive linemen are most concerning. The inability to have the starters together is certainly a detriment to the continuity required to handle what the defense will use to attack Justin Fields.

The news wasn’t all bad at Lake Forest. MLB Tremaine Edmunds finally returned to the practice field this week. Chase Claypool was running and catching balls before the Colts game, so he is close to returning.

Two players that have made the most of their opportunity with the extra playing time have been the aforementioned Doug Kramer and WR Daurice Fountain. Kramer has been steady at center. Daurice Fountain, a four-year veteran, has spent most of his NFL career on practice squads with the Colts and Chiefs before he was added to the Bears practice squad last season, he made the most of his playing time.

Coach Eberflus will not detail injuries until the league mandates injury reporting the week before their first game. We will be monitoring player status between now and opening day.

News and Notes

The Bears vs. Packers game is one of the hottest tickets in the NFL for week one. TickPick and TixBlitz are two sites that do NOT charge service fees. TickPick’s lowest price for a ticket to the game is $370.00, but that is for only one ticket. TixBlitz still has a pair of tickets for the game at $394.00 each.

Do we have a training/nutrition issue or is the system being used to put players in the doghouse? Enquiring minds want to know 🙂

The Bears have a MASH unit. It’s a problem if it’s the same people.

Claypool is injury prone.
Their line has injury problems.

This amount of injuries leads me to believe that the discipline that is raved about in this coaching staff and front office, is not at the level that they say it is. Seems to me that many of these players are not properly conditioned, thus minor injuries are running ramped. I could be wrong, but that’s a loooong list. Too long to be coincidence IMO. And how did Yannick pass a physical but then never even practice? Unless I missed comments along the way about him practicing.

That list of injured players is impressive it reads like a grocery list. Wondering if its time to start worrying about the training and conditioning staff. Injuries happen but jeez the season hasn’t even started.
