Insider Claims Switch To Mitch Trubisky Was Not Coaches’ Call

-

The Mitch Trubisky switch has finally happened for the Chicago Bears. Almost every fan across the country is screaming out in joy. Less that the kid is playing and more that the Mike Glennon fiasco is finally over. Everybody knew he was a placeholder the moment Trubisky was drafted and it was only a matter of time before this happened. Now it has and there’s jubilation and anticipation for what comes next.

So while fans have made their feelings clear, what about the rest of the Bears roster? That might come as a big surprise.

Benjamin Allbright, the same insider who correctly reported before everybody that the Bears were making the switch, was asked about how the players felt when the decision was made. His response, though short, paints a clear picture of just how tense things have become in the locker room for that coaching staff.

Near mutiny by Bears locker room forced Mitch Trubisky switch

That’s not a big surprise given the comments made by guys like Akiem Hicks following the Green Bay disaster. He said “changes” needed to be made. While he didn’t explicitly mention Glennon by name, anybody with common sense knew that’s who he was talking about. Eight turnovers in four games including four in that one alone will do that.

This also isn’t a good look for head coach John Fox. He was the one who seemed the most resistant to the idea of playing Trubisky. Even after the bad game Glennon had in Tampa Bay he saw fit to blame the rest of the team for miscues. Anybody with eyes saw most of the issues ran through the quarterback. His denial probably didn’t endear him to many.

Never mind the fact he chose to ignore the clear reality in preseason that saw Trubisky outplay Glennon in each of the three games they both played. The players seemed to respond to him. They operated with more energy and urgency. He also didn’t turn the ball over. The failure of Fox to have the guts to go with the kid wasn’t a good look either.

Given Marc Trestman was fired because he’d lost command of the locker room, it’s fair to ask how much longer Fox has at this rate.
