One thing that will never change about the NFL is quarterbacks are always in high demand. It has reached such a point where even those considered on the fringe of “good” are getting paid $40+ million annually. A quarterback who flopped with one team might still fetch a decent price in a trade because other teams are hopeful a better environment will help him blossom. That is the sales pitch every needy organization is giving themselves right now as they look at the prospect of Justin Fields being available.
It isn’t hard to talk oneself into the idea. Fields is an elite athlete with a strong arm. He’s one of the most dangerous threats in the NFL on the move. All one has to do is find a way to get him more comfortable as a pocket passer and you’re golden. Combine that with his contract still being cheap and it isn’t hard to imagine teams wanting him. Ian Rapoport of NFL Network already indicated last week the Chicago Bears could fetch a premium pick for Fields. He doubled down on that statement on Tuesday, stating they expect to get something “really good” for the QB.
Justin Fields is more valuable than people want to admit.
Keep this in mind. Sam Darnold fetched 2nd, 5th, and 6th round picks for the New York Jets a couple of years ago. That was after a season where he barely topped 2200 yards passing with nine touchdowns and 11 interceptions. Fields at least eclipsed 3,000 total yards with 20 touchdowns (4 rushing) and nine interceptions. Not a great season but far superior to what Darnold managed. Combining that with his superior talent makes it easy to imagine teams being more aggressive for his services than people want to let on.
It probably isn’t a coincidence other insiders like Adam Schefter and Tom Pelissero suggested the Bears might get a 1st round pick for Justin Fields. They understand how the market works. There is a large number of teams with a glaring need at the position. Free agency and the draft don’t have enough options to satisfy them all. The odds are high that a few will realize Fields is a better pursuit than the alternatives, even at a high price. Remember, lots of these decision-makers have jobs on the line and must sell something to their fanbases.

Would you prefer Fields or someone like Bo Nix, Michael Penix, or Spencer Rattler? Exactly.
@Unluckyirishman76 Yawn – The Bengals had 3 OL with PFF scores above 70, the Bears have 1 this year and the Bengals had a guard who played as well as Teven. So, no, not the worst line in Football. Joe Mixon rushed for over 1200 yds that year. a trip to the Pro Bowl, and a PFF score of 79.5. So, yes they had a running game. Ja’marr Chase was rookie of the Year,3X Pro Bowl, and 1 All Pro (probably better than DJ but lets call it a wash), Tee Higgins has consistently scored in the 70s in PFF… Read more »
@eecummings….Joe Burrow. Had the worse oline in football, no run game, 1 great wr, 1 decent. =SuperBowl. Next excuse? Oh…and how did your boy play against those said teams? I know i know, its the olines fault he held onto the ball. GTFOH.
@Unluckyirishman76 My lord, you really cannot read! I made no reference to the Bears defense at all. You made an absurd statement about the Chiefs defense and I made it clear just how absurd it was. Moreover, you were completely making crap up about where the Packers and Browns were rated as passing defenses (probably the Lions too – I am just getting too bored with your nonsense to look it up) and are now, clownishly, trying to cover that up. As for why are we still having this conversation after three years, because too many people cling to a… Read more »
@eecummings. Sooooo the Bears defense the first few games was good? How did they end up at the end of the year? Case closed. You are right though, the Packers D was 9th however the Browns were playing without several of their defensive starters. I appreciate you at least trying to justify Fields being even worth a half a shit as a QB but if all your points were so accurate then why the hell after 3 years we are having this conversation?
@Unluckyirishman76 Now, you are just being silly. Of course you use the year end stats to rank a team. Are you pretending that KC did not have a great defense this year? That Chris Jones and Trent McDuffie were not on the field against the Bears? Moreover, they had played only two games before the Bears, holding the Lions to 7 points below their season average and JAX to 9 points, Yeah, that defense really sucked… And the Packers had a “20 something rated PASS defense when Fields played them” Really? On September 10 – the first game of the… Read more »
