If you scroll through social media, you’ll see a couple of highlight videos of Jordan Love making some nice throws. One was a 70-yard bomb to Christian Watson. Another was a scramble to his right followed by a fading toss to rookie Jayden Reed that should’ve been caught as he was diving toward the sideline. Green Bay Packers fans would have you think these are signs the former 1st round pick will ascend to his rightful place as the heir apparent to Aaron Rodgers, continuing the Hall of Fame legacy at the position.
Not everybody is feeding the hype training, though. Rob Demovsky covers the team for ESPN. His evaluation is considerably less fluffy. During an appearance on Get Up ESPN, he stated that Love has had one perfect day of training camp thus far. The rest have either been average or outright ugly. Fellow beat writer Matt Schneidman of The Athletic echoed this sentiment, saying the offense has lost every single day against the defense since camp began last week.
The Green Bay Packers have practiced at full speed five times in training camp. During each practice, head coach Matt LaFleur puts the team through a “competition period.” That could be a two-minute drill, a red-zone period, etc. Whichever side of the ball loses the period does either up-downs or push-ups after practice.
After all five practices, the offensive players and coaches have been down on the grass at Ray Nitschke Field.
The Green Bay Packers’ run of great fortune is about to be tested.
They want to believe they lucked into Love in 2020. It’s why GM Brian Gutekunst traded up to get him. They felt his talent and temperament were exactly what they were looking for. However, it took three full years for him to finally get his opportunity to start. There were rumblings throughout the process that Love wasn’t progressing as quickly as the organization had hoped. His appearances on the field have been a mixed bag at best. Maybe everything clicks once the real games start, but it’s not exactly convincing guys who watched Aaron Rodgers for years that everything will be okay.
Green Bay Packers fans are absolutely sure Love will prove everybody wrong on opening day against the Chicago Bears. They’re almost pleading for it. They don’t want to live in a world where they’re stuck with non-elite QB play like nearly everybody else. However, the law of averages says it will happen at some point. They’ve dodged the bullet for 30 years. Nobody can run forever. It will be interesting to see how they react if Demovsky’s doom-saying turns out to be true.

I can ONLY hope they experience what we have for 30 years!! (I liked Cutty and ‘Buscuit… they let’s be honest they never ‘carried’ the teams they QB’d for). All the other guys…even Jimmy Mac’ wasn’t a HOF’er. GB got 2 in a row that had LOOOOOOOOONG careers.
That just wasn’t ‘fair’…. so this is OUR time!!
GO BEARS!!
