The Chicago Bears seem content with the structure of their quarterback room as things stand. Mitch Trubisky is the starter and Nick Foles is the reliable veteran backup. Some people would much prefer if the roles were reversed but this is how it is. Considering the Bears are 2-0, it’s hard to argue against their reasoning.
However, could things change in the coming weeks? The Bears aren’t usually prone to trading players in the middle of a season. Especially ones that might play a pivotal role. Then again, as the Million Dollar Man always said: “Everybody’s got a price.” So if somebody came calling for the services of Foles, would GM Ryan Pace listen?
Former linebacker Bart Scott thinks so. On ESPN’s Get Up, he was discussing which favored team is the most likely to lose in Week 3. His choice was the Philadelphia Eagles, who have experienced a boatload of issues on offense. Particularly with quarterback Carson Wentz. If he struggles against the rebuilding Cincinnati Bengals? Scott thinks Philly will do something drastic.
“If the Eagles lose this game, they’re going to trade for Nick Foles and put the band back together.”
The Nick Foles thing in Philadelphia is no joke
One must remember that Foles has a statue outside that stadium. Eagles fans revere him as a demigod. Winning them a Super Bowl does that. A lot of people, including former teammates believe Philadelphia made a mistake by choosing to go with Wentz rather than sticking with Foles. That wasn’t really fair to Wentz at the time, but the more he continues to struggle the louder those voices will get.

Make no mistake. Plenty of Philly fans would jump at the chance to bring Foles back. The question is would either team? Remember the Eagles drafted Jalen Hurts in the 2nd round for exactly this scenario. A possibility Wentz would struggle. Why trade for Foles? Scott seems to think he could slide in as the starter and buy Hurts more time to develop.
It’s a bit of a janky idea. Never mind the Bears would have to be on board with it. That seems highly unlikely. Not only is Foles valuable as a backup, they still can’t be sure Trubisky will end up working out this season. Keeping the 32-year old close by is much more in their best interests.
That is unless the Eagles make them an offer they can’t refuse.
