Justin Fields seemed to have it all. He was big, strong, fast, and had an arm capable of making any throw in a playbook. Test scores showcased high intelligence and coaches and teammates widely celebrated his work ethic. There was no way this kid would be a failure at the NFL level. Time has proven otherwise. Across 29 career games, Fields has completed less than 60% of his passes for 26 touchdowns and 24 interceptions. He’s 5-22 as a starter and hasn’t won a game since last October.
It is obvious the 24-year-old is starting to feel the pressure. Fans and media have begun turning on him, believing he might be a lost cause. That is probably what led him to say that he feels overcoached and robotic when he plays. This deflected lots of the blame to offensive coordinator Luke Getsy for not doing enough to ease his burden. However, some people aren’t buying that. They feel the excuses need to stop. Alex Rollins, a top film analyst on YouTube, released a scathing video on Fields with a title that is uncomfortable and impossible to ignore.
Be sure to watch the entire thing. It’s excellent. Yet, it was one quote that stood out above the rest.
“Good quarterbacks are able to read one side of the field, then come back and hit a route breaking into their vision. Which is hard, but this is the freaking NFL, after all. Well, Fields is light years away from that. A crucial part to playing the position is route elimination, which demonstrates good vision and timing. When studying Fields’ film, it’s really clear that route elimination is one of his biggest issues. He’ll hang on one route for way too long, which doesn’t allow him to progress to the other receivers coming open, which is a big reason why his time to throw is so dang high.”
Justin Fields can’t dodge responsibility anymore.
He got the benefit of the doubt through the first two years. His rookie season was difficult because of his inexperience and the questionable developmental tactics of Matt Nagy. Then, last year, a new coaching staff came in with a new system. Not to mention minimal help around him. This was supposed to be his year. Experience was no longer a problem. He had help around him, headlined by star receiver D.J. Moore. The offensive system was established. Improvement was understandably expected.

That isn’t what they got. If anything, Justin Fields seems to have regressed. His tendency to hold the ball looks even worse and he’s not even threatening teams as a runner anymore. The Bears may end up changing the scheme to utilize his legs more, but that won’t solve the original problem. Top quarterbacks must be able to process defenses at a high level. Fields can’t. It’s been this way since he got to the NFL. Maybe the switch finally goes on in the next two months, but it doesn’t look promising.
It looks like one final middle finger from Ryan Pace, after all.
That’s 8 words morons.
Poles got him beat.
Clueless General Manager
Can sum him up on one word… incapable.
