One thing about Eddie Jackson is he’s never been afraid to speak his mind. The longtime safety had high hopes going into 2023. It felt like last season was a big rebound for him, notching four interceptions. Sadly, his year ended with a foot injury. That problem quickly resurfaced early this season as well. Jackson missed last Sunday against the Denver Broncos. Now he’s been declared out for the game on Thursday night against the Washington Commanders. One would think this is a good time to keep his mouth shut.
Alas, Jackson couldn’t help himself. During an interview with Bleck and Abdalla for ESPN 1000, he was asked his opinion of Commanders quarterback Sam Howell. The former 5th round pick has played well in three of his four games this season, recently putting up 31 points on the defending champion Philadelphia Eagles. That didn’t seem to impress Jackson. He believes Howell is overrated due to his struggles with reading coverages. The fact he did this 24 hours before the game feels ill-advised, considering it’s on the road against a team that beat the Bears last year.
Eddie Jackson isn’t doing his team any favors.
If he were playing, he would have the chance to back up those words. The fact he’s saying them while putting the burden on his teammates to back it up isn’t the best idea. He should also know talking trash like that when your team hasn’t won a game in almost a year isn’t warranted. The Bears haven’t stopped any quarterback they’ve played in that entire time. Did Jackson forget Mike White lit this defense up last season? This isn’t 2018 anymore. Trash talk is earned in this league.
Not many people expect a positive outcome for the Bears in this game. Their defense hasn’t stopped anybody for months. Washington’s defensive line is among the best in the NFL. Justin Fields has shown he can’t function when he’s getting lots of pressure. It’s a bad matchup, and Eddie Jackson won’t be there to help prove Howell can’t read coverages. Don’t be surprised if the Commanders come out with some extra juice. That is often how this goes for the Bears these days.

I think Eddie is under instruction from the Bears brass to stir it up to insure the Bears get a better draft position. It’s all part of the tank, baby.
Time to send this expensive clown packing along with Claypool.
