Make a note of this now. Chicago Bears fans are going to love Dazz Newsome. The North Carolina wide receiver was one of their three picks in the 6th round of the 2021 draft. Though trapped in the shadow of his more celebrated teammate Dyami Brown, Newsome still managed to stand out in his own. The general view on him is a quick slot receiver with strong hands and a knack for big plays.
What nobody expected was how much of a character the kid is. One of his first missions upon learning he was coming to Chicago? Find out the best eating spots. So he sent out a call to Bears fans for suggestions. He got plenty of great responses, but Newsome wasn’t done. When appearing in front of the media for the first time, he made things more interesting with a simple directive. Before asking the question, give a good eatery spot.
He got plenty of great suggestions.
Lou Malnati’s. Portillo’s. Giordano’s. However, things got really fun when one interviewer went in a different direction by suggesting Harold’s Chicken. A popular destination on the south side. That seemed to bring up a personal thought from Newsome he’d been holding onto since he got to Chicago. Something he just can’t seem to understand or accept.
Not a single Waffle House in or near the city.
Subscribe to the BFR Youtube channel and ride shotgun with Dave and Ficky as they break down Bears football like nobody else.
It’s been a known fact for many years that Waffle House is a premium destination for both breakfast and late-night food goers. It’s beloved in many areas of the country. Especially the south. The restaurant originated in Georgia and Newsome was born in Virginia. How is it possible not even one exists in Chicago? A very simple reason. Illinois is a region completely dominated by the International House of Pancakes (IHOP). What many see as Waffle House’s main rival chain. There are 47 different locations in this state alone.
Dazz Newsome may have to wait for road trips for his WH fix
The good news? The Bears open on the road in Los Angeles. There are plenty of Waffle House spots out there. He’ll have numerous chances to get his cravings filled out there. Either that or he has a chance to embrace new possibilities in Chicago. If IHOP isn’t his speed, he can try other places like Tempo Cafe, Pick Me Up Cafe, or the old classic Denny’s. Needless to say? He’ll have plenty of options.
If he ends up performing on the field, Newsome may not have to pay for meals in Chicago. He certainly has enough ability to make it happen. However, he’s also under no illusions. He understands he’s a 6th round pick. That doesn’t come with much security regarding his roster spot. So he’ll have to work hard and earn his way onto the depth chart. Let alone the field.
Plenty of obstacles stand in his way.
Namely a number of other promising receivers on the roster including fellow new arrivals Marquise Goodwin and Damiere Byrd. If he’s going to make an impression, it may have to be on special teams. Lucky for him he also happens to be a decent punt returner. Here’s hoping he sticks around because Dazz Newsome feels like an entertainer.
