Davante Adams Couldn’t Resist Jabbing At The Packers Draft Too

-

It’s been months since the Green Bay Packers completed their 2020 draft. Yet even now the criticism of it has not stopped. The draft experts got their licks in early. Since then it appears current and former players or coaches have taken their own swipes at it as well. Aaron Rodgers had his opportunity to bury it for obvious reasons. He didn’t. His best wide receiver? While not outright angry about it, Davante Adams couldn’t resist making his confusion known.

For those who somehow aren’t caught up, here’s the quick recap. The Packers went to the NFC championship last season. However, their offense clearly had issues against the tough San Francisco 49ers defense. Rodgers did throw for 326 yards and two touchdown but also two interceptions. He fumbled three times as well. Most of those positive yards came in garbage time too.

It became painfully obvious Green Bay had no viable #2 wide receiver opposite Adams. This is why most believed the team would draft one in the 1st round back in April. Instead, the Packers drafted Jordan Love, a quarterback. So rather than try to help push the offense a little more towards possibly winning a Super Bowl, they chose to draft Rodgers’ eventual replacement.

Adams admitted it didn’t make much sense as he told Stacey Dales.

The Packers set themselves up to fail if Davante Adams goes down

It’s clear the team was hoping to provide some help to their depth with the signing of veteran Devin Funchess in free agency. He’d been on the rise back in 2017, posting 840 yards with eight touchdowns. Injuries though hampered him the past two years. The 26-year old was no doubt viewed as a low-risk-high-reward option who could complement Adams well.

Then Funchess chose to opt out of the 2020 season due to COVID-19. Just like that, their entire plan was ruined.

Now the Packers will go into this year with almost identical the receiving corp from last season. It will be Adams at the top with a mixture of Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Allen Lazard, and Equanimeous St. Brown. Rodgers will find his usual ways to make it work but the Packers enjoyed great injury luck last season. If Adams were to go down for whatever reason, this team could be exposed in a hurry.

The exact fear fans continue to have.
