The Chicago Bears knew their season was on the line Sunday. Their offense was banged up. A rookie would be starting at quarterback. They’d need a complete team effort to get the win. That is what they got. Thanks to a strong defensive effort, an outstanding day running the ball by D’Onta Foreman, and efficient passing from Tyson Bagent, the Bears worked over the Las Vegas Raiders 30-12. They also got timely contributions from the wide receivers. DJ Moore was obviously one of them, but a bigger surprise was rookie Tyler Scott.
He made a couple of nice catches for first downs in the game, keeping drives alive. Moore did his thing, leading the team in yards. He almost had an insane one-handed catch for a touchdown. However, he wasn’t entirely happy after the game. While Moore was thrilled to get the Bears’ second win in three games, not everything about it was good. He was particularly annoyed by his rookie teammates. His reasoning had nothing to do with personal beef. It was an unacceptable mistake he made during one of his catches.
DJ Moore knows the consequences of that.
One of the first lessons every wide receiver learns is to never let the ball into your body while making a catch. That makes it far too easy for it to bounce off something, leading to a drop. Moore doesn’t want Scott to develop such a bad habit. It’s a surefire way to get him benched the moment he lets one ricochet off him. Always catch passes with the hands, no matter what. That is one thing all the great NFL receivers share. You’ll never spot them on film letting the ball get into their bodies. Not unless they have no other choice.
This is yet another reason the Bears traded for DJ Moore. They wanted his outstanding pass-catching prowess, which has been as-advertised. However, they also knew they were getting a consummate professional and team leader. Seeing him get on Scott’s case like this is excellent for the team. If the rookie listens, it will yield positive results down the line. The recent upsurge in his production offers hope it’s already heading in that direction.
