Green Bay Packers fans have had extraordinarily good for the past 30 years. Between 1992 and 2022, their team made the playoffs 23 times and won two Super Bowls. Most of that came from their enormous good fortune at the quarterback position. It started with the Atlanta Falcons being dumb enough to trade Brett Favre to them. Then it continued when Aaron Rodgers magically fell to them in the 2005 draft. Those fans have had it good. Now they are deathly afraid the ride may be over, and Colin Cowherd knows that.
Green Bay kickstarted the next era when they traded up to select Jordan Love in the 2020 draft. Everybody thought it was Rodgers all over again. They’d groom the young man into the next franchise superstar. However, things started to become concerning when the Packers had their chance to move on from Rodgers after the 2021 season. Instead, they elected to hand him a massive contract extension. That was the first red flag regarding the teams’ opinion of Love.
Cowherd decided to poke the bear even further on his radio program with what he’s been hearing from those close to the situation. It doesn’t sound great.
Colin Cowherd mentioned the exact thing Packers fans fear most.
They’ve been trying to maintain an air of optimism about Love for months. Every positive quote about his progress is taken as gospel. In truth, there is no way teammates would bash their quarterback publicly. That serves no purpose. If the young quarterback were truly the next guy for that franchise, he likely would’ve assumed the mantle from Rodgers last year, if not sooner. Nobody disputed Rodgers was ready during his long wait behind Brett Favre. It’s why the Packers had to force him out after his many teases of retirement. They’d wanted to move on for a long time.

This feels different. Handing Rodgers that extension was a glaring message that the Packers organization didn’t think Love was ready. Keep in mind he’d spent two years developing on the bench by that point. Patrick Mahomes spent one year on the bench, came in, and threw 50 touchdowns his first year in Kansas City. The Chiefs knew he was ready almost right away. It isn’t supposed to take this long. Colin Cowherd wasn’t afraid to point that out, and it’s making Packers fans squirm.
I’d agree with that assessment 99% of the time….this is the exception to that….Rodgers won back to back MVP’s after Love was drafted. MVP’s don’t get traded/let go.
It all starts week 1 Bears fans. If ever there was a must win on the schedule, this is it! The Chicago Bears cannot lose this game. Seriously I would be okay with firing Eberflus, and benching Fields for the Season if they lose. I don’t want to hear a damn thing about well the defense did blah blah blah. Doesn’t matter. If Fields is becoming a true QB1 then he has to will out a win for the Bears in this one. Same goes for Eberflus. If the Bears are up 35-3 at the start of the 4th quarter… Read more »
