Chris Morgan Had Eye-Opening Response When Asked About Nate Davis

-

Nate Davis spent a year and a half in Chicago with the Bears. During that time, the guard was mostly sidelined with various injuries. When he did bother to play, he wasn’t that good. Things reached a breaking point over the past month. Davis was benched in favor of backup Matt Pryor. Then, as injuries mounted, it looked like he might get a chance to play against New England last week. He practiced all week with no issues. Then, right before the game, he complained of back problems. The Bears deactivated him and cut him the following week. Nobody had a better seat for that fiasco than offensive line coach Chris Morgan.

He, more than anybody, understood what really happened behind the scenes. The two were together almost all the time. Bears reporters finally got a chance to ask the coach about what happened. Why did things not work out? Let’s just say Morgan’s response was short and not exactly hard to read.

I’m not going to talk about it. A lot of reasons. I wish it would’ve (worked out) and I wish him the best moving forward. … We’re moving on.”

Chris Morgan clearly avoided saying his real feelings.

When a coach gives an answer like that, it is because he knows he will say something he regrets later on. If fans were furious with Davis during his run with the team, one can only imagine how Chris Morgan felt. Remember, this is a guy who has a reputation for being demanding. He is big on guys who work hard and play with intensity. It didn’t take long to realize Davis embodied neither of those things. One can only imagine how enraged Morgan must’ve felt with each missed practice and blown assignment. It wouldn’t be surprising if he wanted the guy cut sooner, but he knew it wasn’t his decision.

It probably didn’t help that Davis made him look incompetent as a coach. If nothing else, the coach is probably just relieved the headache is gone.

Let’s make a deal and just not mention Nate Davis’s name EVER again.

Where was the due diligence on those two expensive players? Very costly errors for the Bears, not for Poles, yet.

I’m starting a collection so we can hire Olin as line coach. Kicking a buck so that with what Bears offered him he can earn $16 per hour. Anyone else feel free to chip in, let’s see how high we can go.
