Bears Score One of the Top Undrafted Free Agents Available

-

The Chicago Bears signed Emanuel Hall to their roster shortly after the draft. If the name isn’t familiar, it certainly is the draft community. Many had the Missouri wide receiver pegged as a 3rd or 4th round pick. A big reason why? He is a freak athlete.

At 6’2 he has good size for a receiver. Then he added to his value by showcasing his physical potential with a 4.39 in the 40-yard dash at the scouting combine. This followed by a 43.5-inch vertical jump. There is no denying this kid is explosive in every sense of the word.

Lance Zierlein of NFL.com compared him to former Pittsburgh Steelers Pro Bowler Mike Wallace. He doesn’t have a lot of depth to his game, but what he can do is potentially lethal.

“One-trick pony at Missouri with impressive turbo boost to rocket past cornerbacks and take the top off of defenses.”

Chicago Bears signed Emanuel Hall to gain more big plays

Hall is far from a finished product. He’s not the best route runner in the world and hasn’t learn how to play against physical coverage. That will be up to the Bears coaching staff to teach him. Still, his upside is substantial and his ability to take it deep offers all sorts of opportunities for this offense.

Suddenly the entire depth chart is littered with guys who can run. Taylor Gabriel is already there. Now comes Hall and not to mention 6th round pick Kerrith Whyte as well. Any one of those guys is capable of getting the ball and taking it the distance if given enough space.

Hall averaged a whopping 20.8 yards per catch for his college career. He went over 800 yards in each of his last two seasons at Missouri with 14 touchdowns. It’s not hard to see why the Bears liked him and went hard at him after the draft.
