Ryan Poles said there was a substantial possibility changes were coming to the Chicago Bears’ roster before the start of the regular season. That felt like a clear hint the GM planned to scour the waiver wire once other teams began making their final cuts. It makes sense. Poles already replaced over 50% of the roster from last season. That process is still ongoing since the team has holes at multiple positions, particularly on offense.
According to Adam Jahns of The Athletic, people might be underestimating how aggressive Poles is willing to be.
“There have been rumblings in league circles that the Bears have explored adding other offensive linemen, including veteran guards, in the trade market. It won’t be surprising if new faces are added later after cuts are made across the league.”
That isn’t difficult to understand. The interior of the Bears’ offensive line is a mess right now. Lucas Patrick remains out with a broken hand. Their choices at right guard are journeyman veteran Michael Schofield or Teven Jenkins, who only just started practicing at the position last week. It makes sense Poles wouldn’t be happy with the situation.
Chicago Bears have every reason to stay aggressive.
Poles isn’t stupid. His entire plan for the team centers around Fields. If he wants to find out whether the young quarterback is franchise material, he has to do everything possible to ensure the kid is protected. Right now, there are no certainties that will be the case. Fields was pressured a lot in his first two preseason games. It doesn’t seem to get much better in Cleveland this Saturday, where he’ll return to the scene of the crime that he was getting sacked nine times last season. San Francisco and Green Bay also await with their own good defenses in weeks one and two.

So yeah, it isn’t hard to understand a sense of urgency from the Chicago Bears. The question is whether they can find somebody available they like for a reasonable price. Poles already gave up a future 7th round pick for N’Keal Harry. It isn’t certain if he’d be willing to dip into that pool again for more help. Or perhaps he might look for a player-for-player swap, which is typical this time of year. Everything appears to be on the table. That will make the next week an interesting one.

Sense of urgency? wtf are you talking about. Sense of urgency would have been in the draft and FA period. Stop making excuses for this piss poor organization. The GM is dumpster diving for talent. Dumpster Diving Poles! That’s the way Sweaty Teddy and Georgie Porgie like it.
Until Patrick is healthy, Whitehair needs to slide over to center and Carter needs to slot in at LG. I’m tired of watching Mustipher get blown up.
I say Dieter Eiselen performs really well again Saturday night he should be our backup Center Mustipher is not the answer
C’mon man! Stop with the hyperbole Erik!! The interior of the O line is not a mess. Whitehair is a solid guard, Mustipher is serviceable, and Jenkins is going to be very good as a guard (eventually the Kyle Long comparisons will happen). And Patrick will most likely start the home opener, and he is an upgrade over Sam.
