As we wrap up March, it’s time for another Bears mailbag! First, a big thank you for all the questions—over 43 in total. Some responses will be brief, while others will be more detailed, depending on the question. I’ll also tweak the wording for clarity, so let’s dive in!

@JAYCPhil: Who do you think will lead the Bears in receiving yards this year: Moore or Odunze?
DJ Moore – I think he’ll have a big year with Ben Johnson calling the shots. That said, I do expect Rome Odunze to surpass 1,000 yards as well.
@ajgrim04: Do you think Caleb will throw for 4,000 yards? And do they sneak into the wild card?
If Caleb stays healthy and plays all 17 games, yes—I see him surpassing 4,000 passing yards. As for the playoffs, I think the Bears will compete for the division but ultimately get in as a wild card team.
@MichaelBerrySr: Better all-time Bears WR: Curtis Conway or Bernard Berrian?
I wasn’t around to watch Conway, but I know he was highly productive in ‘95 and ‘96 with back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons. Berrian was fun to watch as a kid, but he never topped 1,000 yards. So, I’d go with Conway.
@thechicagosares: Thoughts on Jeanty at 10?
Yes.

@david_peters_04: Who is your DT2/3 in this class?
Michigan’s Kenneth Grant.
@JustinFieldsFC: Will the Bears have a top 3 defense in the NFC?
No, but if everything clicks and they stay healthy, they can be a top 10 unit.
@PF_Jung: What round are we drafting Ashton Hall in?
You’d have to call Tennessee and see what it takes to get to No. 1 (haha).
@polarbearsfield: If Roschon gets real snaps this season, do you think he’ll perform well behind the new O-line? Or is he just a wash?
I don’t see Roschon Johnson becoming an elite back. I think he’ll be a solid depth piece bouncing around the league. He’ll see better production with the improved O-line, but it depends on whether the Bears draft an RB early and how they utilize D’Andre Swift.
@Flexin_Williams: Get Nick Chubb, draft Warren at 10, or trade up for Jeanty?
None of the above.
@illinick31: If Jeanty, Campbell, Graham, and Membou are all gone at 10 with no trade-back option, who are you targeting?
If Tyler Warren is there, I’d consider him. Otherwise, I’d look for a trade back. If not, maybe Tennessee EDGE James Pearce Jr.
@CalebSzn__: What is Caleb’s ceiling, floor, and your realistic expectations for next season?
- Floor: What we saw last year with poor coaching and O-line play. He won’t play worse than his rookie year.
- Ceiling: Top 3 QB in the league.
- Realistic 2025 projection: 4,039 yards, 25 TDs, 10 INTs.
@MattMargery: Do the Bears make the playoffs this season?
Yes.
@seans_paradise: How many games will the Bears win? Will they draft Jeanty?
10 wins. If he’s there at 10, he’s a Bear.
@ben_wagoner: Last year, the OC didn’t care which foot Caleb had forward. Do you think Ben Johnson will change that?
Ben will have input, but Caleb is meticulous. He’ll take Johnson’s coaching and implement it. Caleb wants to be coached—he didn’t get that last year.

@ripkingston1: Thoughts on Jalon Walker?
Off-ball linebacker? Meh.
@Bearsfan30: Who would you like the Bears to replace Jack Sanborn with? Free agent or draft pick?
Someone with speed. But Sanborn will be missed!
@blackgodwayne: Best and worst-case scenarios for the Bears at pick 10?
- Best: Ashton Jeanty.
- Worst: As long as they don’t reach, any BPA (Best Player Available) adds talent.
@elliott09231510: How concerning is Tremaine Edmunds’ lack of production?
On a scale of 1-10, about a 5. There’s an out in his contract after 2025, but let’s see how he performs in a revamped defense under Dennis Allen.
@AllenRocks7: What would make next season a success? Playoffs or a playoff win?
It starts and ends with Caleb Williams. He needs to prove he’s the guy. If we don’t have that answer by 2025, we’re back to the same uncertainty we had with Trubisky and Fields.
@eberhart_shaun: Is Cairo Santos the Bears’ kicker in Week 1?
100%.
@idkwhatoput46: What are the Bears’ biggest needs in order?
- EDGE
- DT
- OT
- S
- RB
- OG
(I’d only take an RB at 10 if Ashton Jeanty is there—his talent is too good to pass up.)
@rel8togr8: Will the Bears keep Swift this year?
My gut says yes.
@Duke1474780: With free agency moves setting up the starters, is it worth drafting a backup at 10 or trading back for more picks?
Take the best player available at 10.
@DonutTShalaskey: What’s a realistic ceiling for Caleb? Can he be a top 5 QB under Ben Johnson?
Top 5 for sure.
@yapperinho: Thoughts on Bhayshul Tuten?
Virginia Tech RB Bhayshul Tuten has speed and could fit well in Ben Johnson’s scheme. If the Bears don’t take an RB earlier, a late-round flyer on him could work. But I can name 10 RBs I’d prefer over him in this draft.
@dantepurify: At No. 10, is a man-to-man CB in play?
Nope.
@FlooreBill38272: I wouldn’t trade Caleb for ANY QB in the league. Would you?
Yes. I can name a few—Mahomes, Allen, and Lamar come to mind. But I do think Caleb has the potential to reach that elite tier.
@Pops90644639: Updates on Booker, Amigadje, and Braxton’s health?
Not much on Booker, but he’s training with Grady Jarrett, Montez Sweat, and other Bears players. Braxton Jones is out of his walking boot, so he’s progressing.
@mdeezy20i: How many of our own free agents have we re-signed?
Not many—maybe around five(ish)
Until Next Time
Thanks again for all the great questions! I’ll have another mailbag coming out at the end of April, likely after the draft. Stay tuned for that, and be sure to have your questions ready. You can find the post by following me on Twitter @dave_bfr.
@Bears57 Even I have no idea which drugs do that.
What kind of drugs are people on that they aren’t willing to trade Williams? I’d trade him yesterday for a small handful of high picks and deal with BJ + whatever qb I could get my hands on + all the extra cheap talent I just acquired with aforementioned picks.
Also, you can easily say something like “the best QB1 in the league is the QB1 who started last year’s Super Bowl for the team that won” and I’d have a tough time disagreeing with that basic premise.
@barry It’s so easy to sell things to people now in the post-truth era that it should be frightening. Boris Johnson and his ilk sold the Brits on BREXIT. Now they have buyer’s remorse.
Read Voltaire. “Anyone who has the power to make you believe absurdities has the power to make you commit atrocities (injustices).” Or “It is difficult to free fools from the chains they revere.” Truer in the USA than ever before.
@citizen34 Do I want the Chicago Bears to have the best QB in the league? Of course I do. Don’t you?
