The Chicago Bears humiliating defeat against the Green Bay Packers appears to be even more disheartening after rewatching the film and diving deeper into the analytics. Perhaps the most glaring observation from this loss was the alarming performance of right guard Nate Davis, who inked a substantial three-year, $30 million contract with the Chicago Bears over the summer, including $19.2 million in guaranteed money. Unfortunately, Davis’s season did not begin on a positive note.
Did Ryan Poles Whiff On This Signing?
Nate Davis, who had minimal practice during the off-season and training camp, performed as one would anticipate: rusty and lacking the energy to protect Justin Fields from pressure. However, it’s worth noting that the entire Bears offensive line had a subpar performance. Here are their PFF grades:
Lucas Patrick – 43
Cody Whitehair – 47

Nate Davis – 48
Braxton Jones – 62
Darnell Wright – 72
Nate Davis’s performance against Green Bay raised some serious concerns, particularly regarding the number of pressures he allowed. He gave up a total of 9 pressures, leading the team in this regard. His pass-blocking grade, as per PFF, stood at a concerning 7.2, possibly one of the lowest grades I’ve ever seen handed out.
The frustration among Bears fans regarding Davis has been evident for a while, and this recent performance will only make the noise louder. Hopefully, he can regain his form by putting in more reps at practice. However, this doesn’t bode well for Ryan Poles as this might be another questionable decision/acquisition. For Justin Fields’ sake, let’s hope Davis can bounce back in the upcoming game against Tampa Bay.

Jesus… did anyone notice that all of the dudes who didn’t practice and didn’t do preseason all looked like they didn’t belong on the field Sunday?
