Chicago Bears Interested In Luring Newly Available Former All-Pro

-

The Chicago Bears always keep their ears out for potential names who can help make them better. That includes possible trade candidates for the upcoming deadline and free agents looking for new homes. A minor surprise occurred on Thursday when the Tennessee Titans released former All-Pro safety Jamal Adams. The former three-time Pro Bowler was traded there this off-season in hopes of fortifying a weak secondary. However, he has only appeared in three games to this point due to a nagging hip issue. Combine this with the Titans’ rough 1-4 start, and the desire for a fresh start from both sides isn’t shocking.

Adams undoubtedly hopes to go somewhere he can be of more use and maybe compete on a winning team. That is where the Bears come in. According to a source, the organization has interest in the 29-year-old. The team lost Jaquan Brisker to a concussion against Carolina. While he remains an outstanding player, he has a tendency to miss games with various injuries. Having more proven depth behind him would make sense. Adams has direct ties to safeties coach Andre Curtis, who worked with him in Seattle.

The Chicago Bears’ interest in Adams is easy to justify.

When healthy, he is a tremendous player with great versatility. Some could say Brisker is a carbon copy of him. The problem is he hasn’t been healthy in years. Since 2019, Adams has missed 37 combined games with various injuries. Any team would be foolish to consider the idea of signing him as a starter. His best role at this point is as a rotational backup who can give them some flexibility. That is what Chicago envisions for him. The core issue is whether Adams is willing to accept that.

His primary reasoning for leaving Tennessee was not getting to play much. He still thinks he can start in the NFL and likely wishes to land somewhere he can prove it. The Chicago Bears aren’t that team. Still, if he finds the market less accommodating than he hopes, there are reasons to think this move can happen. They are a strong defensive team with a style of play that fits what he does best. He’d work with a coach he knows well and join a team that is in the playoff mix.

The Bears have Hicks and Owens already on the team, they know the system, and they are less injury prone. Pass.

Why would you trade to get a backup to an often injured player with another often injured player. Maybe I’m stupid, but this makes no sense to me.

Adams is the type of player Poles has worked hard to rid this team of. The pretense that the Bears could be interested in him is more ridiculous than TGena.
