Chicago Bears Could Land Historic Deal From Unexpected Trade Partner For Top Pick

-

The 2024 NFL Draft is just three months away, but the focus is currently on the upcoming NFL combine, where rumors and speculations about teams’ draft strategies start circulating. Coaches and general managers are strategically leaking information, whether it’s genuine intentions or deliberate smokescreens to create uncertainty in the draft order. The Chicago Bears, holding the number one overall pick, are at the epicenter of this pre-draft buzz. Ryan Poles will play a pivotal role once again in determining the team’s direction. The primary question on everyone’s mind is whether the Bears will select a quarterback this time. If Poles opts to trade back, the Las Vegas Raiders, positioned with the 13th pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, emerge as a dark horse to watch. A recent article on raidersbeat.com explores the potential scenario and what the Raiders might need to offer in order to acquire the number one overall pick from the Chicago Bears.

“If the Bears agree to take one additional first-round pick for this year’s no.1 pick (compared to last year’s trade), it’s possible the Raiders could get Williams for 3 first-round picks, 2 second-round picks, a third-round pick, and a solid starter…That’s a massive cost, but it still might not be enough.”

Ryan Poles has a tough decision to make

The trade proposal for this year’s first overall pick hinges on the compensation the Bears received from the Carolina Panthers last year. This compensation included a first-round pick at No. 9, a late-second-round pick (No. 61), a 2024 first-round selection, a 2025 second-round pick, and WR DJ Moore.

However, according to this piece on raidersbeat.com, the suggested trade package may be more costly due to the overall talent and potential of USC QB Caleb Williams. If you’re Ryan Poles, you need to carefully assess whether Williams is worth passing up on. Opting to trade the pick could yield premium draft picks, allowing the Bears to build a “super team” around Justin Fields. Each path should lead to success for Chicago but how much depends on the direction Ryan Poles ultimately chooses.

One drawback is that trading back with the Raiders may cause the Bears to miss out on top players like Marvin Harrison Jr. However, they would have the resources to trade back up, possibly from their own pick at number 9.

@TGena, Deon Bush is a warm body but the type of player that gets released every year. I’m happy for his pick but you know it was a gift from one of the most overrated PASSERS in the league. Kindle Vildor is Garbage, Good riddance. David Montgomery is the only player they lost here that breaks my heart. Love the guy and I’m confident Poles didn’t want to lose him but the reality is running backs are rarely paid big money these days and it made no sense to match what Detroit was offering. I Really was hoping he would… Read more »

@samuraimike, LA mike had a bright future ahead of him but fell out of grace with Ditka who demanded team focus. Some people think of Cali when the see him referred to as L.A. Mike but it was really Ditka’s nickname for him (LazyAss). Sad, just the same though. A couple other interesting story line from that draft were Mark Bortz who was actually a defensive lineman in college and the drafted him with the intent to turn him around to the offensive side of the line and of course Richard Dent. Dent was playing in college at around 240… Read more »

I’m not sure if Alt is the target but I 100% agree the target is a STUD Left Tackle. Either Alt or Fashano, mocks are somewhat split on who is better.

Today, some of those former Bears’ “old” players STARTED for the four teams, still playing in the NFL:

for the Ravens: Brent Urban and Roquan Smith.
for the 49ers: Tashaun Gipson, Sr.
for the Lions: David Montgomery (1st Qtr. TD vs. the 49ers) and Kindle Vildor
forr K.C. (non-starter) Deon Bush (4th Qtr. INT).

Remember, “old” doesn’t mean “bad,” and “young” doesn’t mean “good.”

@mbearest Sorry, I meant to say that Gault’s clutch catches let both the Rams and Pats know that their playoff run was over. Gault with the coup de grace so to speak. Which reminds me yet another underrated gem of that legendary 83 draft, second rounder Mike Richardson had probably his best game as a Bear in SB XX, stifling several long passes on the rare occasions that the other Junkyard Dogs couldn’t quite get to Eason or Grogan. L.A. Mike was actually my favorite player on that D. I seem to identify with DBs like Plank, Fencik, D. Tate… Read more »
