Caleb Williams Shares Epic Response to Patrick Mahomes Comparisons

-

Caleb Williams and the Bears’ offense had a rough start in the first quarter against the Cincinnati Bengals. In his first 14 snaps, Williams completed just 4 of 8 passes for 19 yards, looking somewhat out of sync and possibly struggling to read the field. However, things improved in the second quarter. Williams completed 4 of 7 passes for 70 yards and scored a rushing touchdown. He also led two scoring drives, including one where a deep pass to Tyler Scott resulted in a defensive pass interference call that could have been a big catch or even a touchdown. Despite the slow start, Williams demonstrated why he was the number one overall pick, showing resilience and the ability to bounce back.

Superstar wide receiver Tyreek Hill even tweeted on Saturday afternoon that Williams reminds him of someone, likely referencing his former teammate, 3-time Super Bowl champion Patrick Mahomes. The comparison to Mahomes has been common for Williams since his college days. When asked about these comparisons and Hill’s tweet, Williams gave an awesome response to the straightforward question.

“It’s respect, cool and all. But I’m Caleb Williams. Patrick Mahomes is Patrick Mahomes. Tyreek Hill is Tyreek Hill.. We’re here to win games for the Chicago bears.. Da Bears

Williams’ humility is on full display when he downplays comparisons to great players such as Mahomes. However, what truly makes his response stand out are the final 11 words:

“We’re here to win games for the Chicago Bears… Da Bears.”

This is exactly the mindset you want in your quarterback, especially a rookie.

I agree. It’s good to see that the media training provided by the team is taking hold. It’s a minor part of his job, but it does matter.

Good reply. So far, I have to admit he is not the personality diva he was described as before the draft. Either a lot of that was not true, or he has been well coached. Either one works for me.

An attorney: “I don’t see motive.”
As a fan: “I don’t see epic.” It was PR rehearsed and he gave the totally expected response. No wonder your politicians get over on you.

Dave I kinda disagree with how you interpreted CW18s response. I don’t think he likes being compared to Maholmes. He wants to be better than Maholmes and when people keep pushing that narrative he is basically trapped in his shadow. Granted it’s going to take a lot to break away from that shadow and forge your own greatness path. But honestly it’s going to be a crazy fun ride watching him do it!
