Caleb Williams And Jim McMahon Did A Commercial Together. It’s Genius

-

Jim McMahon was the last quarterback to win a championship for the Chicago Bears in 1985. Since then, the organization has been looking for the next guy with the talent, leadership, and charisma to accomplish the same. They hope Caleb Williams is that guy. One thing is for sure. He seems to have some of McMahon’s mischievous personality. Both are known for having some outlandish fashion sense. That might explain why Topps, the trading card company, decided to bring them together for a commercial to sponsor a new line of cards.

In it, McMahon mentors the young Williams, teaching him how to properly autograph cards and make them shine. Once ready, the Bears QB was given a set of special cards to sign. He tries three messages.

“Best-looking Bears QB.”

McMahon declines.

“Green Bay Sucks.”

Though amused, McMahon still declines.

“Chicago, let’s Shuffle!”

That received the approval.

Caleb Williams and Jim McMahon were great sports for this.

Yes, it’s cheezy, but that is the point. Trading card collection, while lucrative at times, is about having fun gathering your favorite players. Bears fans will undoubtedly flock to sites and stores selling autographed Caleb Williams cards. McMahon giving him a nod of approval along the way is never a bad sign. There is no doubt the two share a lot in common. Both come from the East Coast but made their names with schools out West. One was derided for wearing shades, flashy headbands, and drinking a beer at his introductory press conference. The other was slammed for painting his nails, crying in his mom’s arms after a loss, and allegedly trying to avoid going to Chicago once it became clear they would land the #1 pick.

Ultimately, the noise didn’t matter. McMahon won a lot of games for Chicago in the 1980s. Williams is set up to do the same.
