Byron Pringle Ain’t Scared To Trash Talk With Bears Defense

-

The Chicago Bears signed Byron Pringle to help invigorate their wide receiving corps. They feel he has the kind of skill set needed to be a legitimate threat out of the slot with run-after-the-catch ability. That wasn’t the extent of it, though. It is also clear GM Ryan Poles wanted to bring in players with a different mindset. He wants tone-setters. Guys that aren’t afraid to mix it up with people, physically and verbally.

Pringle seems to fit that mold well. He proved that after the team’s latest practice on Monday. The wide receiver made a nice catch down the sideline. Eddie Jackson came screaming in on the play, declaring loudly it would’ve either been an interception or a big hit. Pringle was unimpressed and said so after practice, according to The Athletic.

“He said it was going to be a pick, then some people on the defense were talking about how I would have been in the hospital,” Pringle said. “But I seen him. I’m not going to blink my eyes. I’m going to keep smiling. He had to lay me out because I ain’t going to get out.”

He even took it a step further, calling into question Jackson’s so-called assurance he would’ve intercepted the ball.

“If it was a pick, he would have picked it, correct?” Pringle said.

Byron Pringle has the mindset the offense needs.

He isn’t scared. That is likely a product of his upbringing. He grew up in a tough part of Tampa, Florida. Then he had to battle his way into the NFL as an undrafted free agent. Adversity and challenges are nothing new to him. No amount of trash talking will likely deter him from doing his job. After seeing how easily Anthony Miller and Javon Wims broke down in those situations, adding somebody like him makes perfect sense.

It was also a nice dig on Jackson about the interception. For all the talk about doing so, the safety didn’t actually make the play. Byron Pringle has to know that is something the veteran is touchy about. Jackson hasn’t corralled an interception in two years. He hasn’t backed it up too often for all his talk about making plays. As for making a big hit? That isn’t exactly his reputation either. So Pringle was correct in his assessment, making his comments even more biting.

I have a feeling Pringle will still be here after Jackson is gone.
