The Bears kicked off their voluntary offseason program this week, and on Tuesday, several key players spoke to the media, including Caleb Williams, Darnell Wright, Jaylon Johnson, and Tremaine Edmunds. A lot of great insights and behind the scenes details were shared, but one of the most interesting press conferences came from star cornerback Jaylon Johnson.
Now entering his time with a third head coach, Johnson didn’t shy away from sharing his thoughts on the hype surrounding new Bears head coach Ben Johnson and the team’s offseason moves. Known for being vocal both on and off the field, Johnson kept it real.
“I’ve been through this before,” he said. “I’m going to get excited when we win in November and December.”
Johnson emphasized that he’s focused on the work—both individually and as part of the defense—not the headlines.

“Hype don’t win you no games,” he added.

“Hype don’t win you no games.. if it’s not about winning, I don’t care about it.”
This Is The Mindset That Leads To Success
Honestly, it’s refreshing to hear this kind of mindset from a team leader. Too often, Bears fans, players, and even media members get caught up in offseason hype. As Johnson put it perfectly: “If it’s not about winning, I don’t care about it.”
And truthfully, Bears fans should feel the same way. If Ben Johnson wasn’t already feeling the pressure to win and win quickly—Jaylon Johnson made it clear with his message Tuesday: this team has high expectations for 2025.
Maybe some of you remember on HBO’s “Hard Knocks…” last year, when Jaylon Johnson asked DJ Moore to run some routes against him after practice (1-on-1’s) and DJ obliged him the first day — but the following day, DJ Moore brought his kids along — and had to “leave early” with his kids for “Fam time.”
Jaylon Joh.son is a “no-bs football player” — who is willing to put in the work.
You know, the kind of player that winning NFL teams appreciate.
The Bears added some to the roster this year — more are needed.
Hmm. “Been through this b4- don’t get excited until November”.
What kind of Johnson thinks like that? Maybe one that wears a pink skullcap?
How do we differentiate this year on the thinking process around Halas?
Is it Big Ben and little Jaylon or vice versa?
I like JJ’s use of the double negative–it’s powerfully real.
It’s similar to the Stones classic, I Can’t Get No Satisfaction.
Our Johnson doesn’t care about what people say about it, because it’s all about how our Johnson performs.
It will be interesting to see how big our Johnsons can get!
