According to reports, the Bears have signed former Philadelphia Eagles Safety to fill the void at a critical defensive position when Eddie Jackson was released a few weeks ago. Kevin Byard just posted this through his Twitter account. https://twitter.com/KevinByard/status/1766914593744408630
Multiple sources say Byard is signing a two-year deal with the Bears.

The 30-year-old Safety was originally drafted in 2016 by the Tennessee Titans. The Titans signed Byard to a five-year extension before the 2019 season. Last season, Tennessee traded Byard to the Philadelphia Eagles for a fifth and sixth-round pick in this year’s draft. Philadelphia released Byard as a salary cap casualty and the Bears have pounced on the opportunity to sign a sure tackler to their roster.

In 2020, Byard led the Titans with 111 tackles. He also recorded one interception, seven passes defended, and a forced fumble. In 2021, he was named to the Pro Bowl and earned first-team All-Pro honors.
The deal is reported to be worth a base of $15 Million.
CBS Sports first reported this story.
@Dr Melhus, would be nice if JJ’s contract was front loaded but it has a large signing bonus so if it doesn’t work out, the bears have an out after 2 years with a 10 mil cap hit. It’s a pretty good contract for Team and Player.
Who knows how this is going to fold out. Last year I was watching JF looking at open receivers 15 yards in front of him and not throwing the ball, then towards the end of the season he started looking like a QB in some of the games. Now the Bears have upgraded on 2 of the positions that needed upgraded and signed JJ to a good deal for both involved. If the Bears sign a good DE, or WR it pretty well means they plan on trading Fields and drafting a QB, but that still doesn’t mean they won’t… Read more »
Poles makes another great signing. Upgrade at safety, and on to the next piece of the puzzle.
Edge and 3Tech would be great before the draft. Looks like Poles it building a potentially elite defense. This is gonna give the offense more short fields to play on, and help cover some of the growing pains the offense is bound to face.
Good move!
Heck no. I want that 1st rounder for JF I’ve had to read so much about. You know it has to be high, too, like top 15 prolly. Shoot, I’d trade that for a bunch of picks. Maybe we could hold out for a 1st in ’25 too.
2 hits of acid seems to have done the trick, TGena. Thanks!
It will be “different” to see our free safety actually come up to make a hard tackle and not shy away from it.
I hope he’s healthy and ready for a big year. We need it.
Alright, on to DE and Center FAs!
