GM Ryan Poles made several big moves to help make life for Justin Fields easier. After watching last season, it was obvious the Chicago Bears quarterback needed help. Poles bolstered the offensive line with veteran guard Nate Davis and 1st round offensive tackle Darnell Wright. He added another pass-catching tight end in Robert Tonyan and improved the depth at running back with D’Onta Foreman and Roschon Johnson. However, his most celebrated move was undeniably the acquisition of wide receiver D.J. Moore from Carolina.
While he never made a Pro Bowl, nobody can argue he was the best receiving weapon the Panthers had by miles for the past few years. He routinely put up 1,000 yards per year despite constant changes at quarterback from Cam Newton to Kyle Allen, Sam Darnold, and Baker Mayfield. Poles felt Moore provided the Bears with another dynamic weapon. Now he can play a significant role in helping Fields reach that next stage of becoming a franchise quarterback. It appears the two have hit it off well based on a sneak peek video from the team’s social media accounts.
Justin Fields finally has a stable of weapons.
It won’t just be Moore at his disposal this season. He’ll have Darnell Mooney and Chase Claypool in the mix as well. Both have proven histories of being productive. All three players are squarely in their primes too. What probably makes it even better is that Mooney and Claypool are fighting for contract extensions. They need to have a good year to get the money they want. That means they’ll be running their routes a little sharper and fighting through tackles a little harder.
If those three receivers stay healthy and the running game remains strong, this Bears offense can be much better in 2023. Justin Fields will be under a microscope too. This is his third year. Most will agree quarterbacks should start showing their best stuff around this time. His protection is improved. The weapons are more plentiful. He’s entering the second year in the same offensive system under Luke Getsy. This should be his time. It appears Fields isn’t wasting a single second of preparation time.

All I can think of is the jumps Josh Allen and Jalen Hurts made once they got No 1. WR’s. I’m not saying Justin will make that jump but if you look at his past tape (college tape for example) and consider that this is his first time in the same system in forever things look good.
Just for goodness sake, please stay healthy. Let your stacked RB room do most of the carrying. And front office: if you see a defensive player illegally hit Justin ONE MORE TIME with no call, you’d better raise hell.
The Bears will be much improved over last year. It will be interesting to see if they are ready to take over the NFL North Central division. It’s too bad that Aaron Rodgers ran away to another division because I’d love to see them beat him.
What a difference a year makes. And it’s only gonna get even better in another year.
The last time I felt this excited about the start of a season was after the 85 Super Bowl win. I like the vast majority of the moves made by Poles this offseason. At the same time, I know Bears fans have little patience, and patience will be required, especially at the start of the season. I’d say by game six the offense will start to gel.
