There is a strong possibility that the Chicago Bears are hunting for a left tackle in the 2025 NFL draft. It is the only position left with serious question marks going into this year. Braxton Jones has an ankle issue he’s working through and a contract with only one year left. Kiran Amegadjie has plenty of proving to do as a backup, never mind a starter. That is why GM Ryan Poles might be inclined to address the issue with the 10th overall pick, and Will Campbell is the name everybody keeps mentioning.
The LSU left tackle was among the most accomplished in the SEC over the past couple of years, helping Jayden Daniels to his Heisman trophy in 2023. There is one glaring issue. Campbell has short arms. Some have them at 32.75 inches and others at a flat 33. Either way, those are considered short for an NFL tackle, leading some to wonder if he can handle the pro level at that position. Bears offensive line coach Dan Roushar was asked about this by Nicholas Moreano at a recent meeting between the media and assistant coaches. His answer was eye-opening.
It sounds like the Bears aren’t worried about Will Campbell.
They seem to think his tape shows he understands how to work around his length problems. Sure, there will be moments in his career where defenders take advantage of it, but not nearly as often as some might think. This is somebody who has all the tools necessary to be an NFL left tackle, and a good one. Besides, if by some chance it does become a serious issue, the Bears can simply move him inside to guard as a long-term replacement for Joe Thuney. There really isn’t a downside to drafting Will Campbell. Whether he will be available is the bigger question. Most experts don’t see him getting past New England at #4 overall. However, there is an undercurrent of belief that if he does, his slide won’t stop until he lands in Chicago.
