The Chicago Bears continue to be connected to several QBs, but there’s no action (or imminent action) as yet. So, let’s get straight to the good stuff — your questions! — from this week’s Bears Mailbag. Follow me on Twitter @DhruvKoul to continue the conversation.
Bears Mailbag
The Bears have been smart to stand their ground in a deal for Carson Wentz, and I don't see that changing. My understanding is their first preference is Derek Carr, so I'd expect them to be more aggressive there.
If those two don't work out, watch the draft.

In free agency, if they part ways with Robinson, the Bears should certainly be looking at Chris Godwin and Kenny Golladay as replacement options at that #1 WR position.
Josh Reynolds is another sneaky decent target.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Bears kicked the tires on Sam Darnold, but that exercise should end quickly. I don't see the promise others see, other than him being young and having arm talent. I'd rather the Bears rebuild Wentz's confidence than Darnold's.

Only counting realistic options (including the draft):
Derek Carr — I'd trade a first.
Marcus Mariota — Wouldn't require a first.
Carson Wentz — At the right price.
Mac Jones — If he's there at #20.

Yes. While Robinson had moments in 2020 that were fair to gripe about, he is still a clear-cut #1 receiver in the league.
FWIW, my top-3 receivers in the league right now are Tyreek Hill, Davante Adams and Mike Evans.

I'd rather see the Bears pursue Derek Carr as well.
But Wentz is the ultimate reclamation project. He played at an actual MVP-level once upon a time and still has great physical talent. He isn't worth a huge investment, but for the right deal? Absolutely.

If the Bears get Wentz, expect heavy investment in the OL.
The Bears can only trade Robinson if he agrees to sign the franchise tag and another team offers to trade for him (and sign him to an extension).
Golladay is a legitimate FA option in general, though.

The Bears are doing well to hold firm in these talks. There is no need to declare Wentz as THE option this early in the offseason. It allows them to monitor the Derek Carr situation, and do homework on the QBs in the draft.

Not that he isn't appreciated by Bears fans already, but assuming Eddie Goldman returns, the narrative will finally shift to him being the team's most valuable defender.

WR is always an easier position to fill on a roster. My favorite in the draft is Jaylen Waddle, but the Bears should aim to acquire 1-2 WRs with legitimate speed in 2021.
In free agency, watch Kenny Golladay and Josh Reynolds as legitimate options.

Darnold — No. Hopeless situation.
Wentz — Yes. Ultimate reclamation project.
Mariota — Yes. Really needs an opportunity.
Carr — Yes. Best option available.
Foles — Decent backup option.
Minshew — No, unless he is just a bridge to a rookie a few games into 2021.

I'd watch the following teams in particular, whether it's a starting role or a backup role: San Francisco, New England, Denver and Atlanta.
— Dhruv Koul (@DhruvKoul) February 17, 2021
Why not both? This draft class has some very good OL prospects and is pretty deep. But the Bears may be interested in filling some gaps through free agency, including re-signing Germain Ifedi to a team-friendly deal, if he'd be interested.

The 2022 and 2023 Super Bowls. When Tom Brady's contract with the Buccaneers expires after 2021, he'll somehow pick the Bears in a 32-team race for his services, and lead them to glory in both years of his two-year, "ride off into the sunset" contract.
