The Chicago Bears have gotten a look at almost their entire draft class this summer, and it is hard to feel bad about the results. Caleb Williams showcased his elite upside in both preseason appearances. Rome Odunze looks like a future productive receiver. Austin Booker is among the team leaders in pressures. Tory Taylor is averaging 48 yards per punt. There is work to do, sure. Still, the first impressions are promising. Only one name has remained absent from the fun. That is 3rd round pick Kiran Amegadjie. The big tackle out of Yale was working his way back from a quad injury when the Bears drafted him in April. It was understood he’d take time to fully recover. The only question was when.
We finally have an answer. Word has spread that Amegadjie has been activated off the PUP list and is cleared to start practicing.
Kiran Amegadjie will likely remain a mystery.
His return helps the Bears with their overall depth along the offensive line. He is capable of playing both tackle and guard. However, nobody should expect him to see action this year. The preseason finale is Thursday in Kansas City. It seems unlikely they would put the rookie on the field after only a couple of practices. Besides, the starting rotation appears set already. Braxton Jones and Darnell Wright are the tackles. Teven Jenkins is the left guard. Coleman Shelton appears to have secured the center spot. Nate Davis, though on shaky ground, should be the starting right guard.
Chicago’s goal with Kiran Amegadjie should be simple. They will ramp him up in the coming weeks, get him in shape, and start developing his skillset. Ideally, he won’t see action this year, providing time to learn the details of the NFL level. This way, when training camp arrives in 2025, he’ll be prepared to compete for a starting job.

@TGena This is the honest truth: Gene Chamberlain is my favorite Gentile sportswriter. Then, again, he might be the only one.
You’re not saying that you would have drafted Kiran Amegadjie at #75 in the 2024 NFL Draft, are you?
Has Amegadjie tried on his pads yet?
You’re the only person I know of that is stating pick #75 was a squandered pick. The way it looks to me is he will be out there practicing. How many games has he missed so far?
@jmscooby —
My complaint involves Ryan Poles.
It’s not Kiran Amegadjie’s fault that the Bears squandered a 3rd-round pick on him.
Amegadjie is simply taking the money — and not much more (at this point).
@TGena Remember, people often use their heart rather than their brain when it comes to country, love, and football. All of that is now encased in an anti-science, anti-rationality, anti-logical empiricism, and anti-medical science era.
