Remember last year when the tensions between Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers front office first began? This in the wake of their drafting Jordan Love in the 1st round. There was a rush of rumors that Green Bay might be forced to trade their star quarterback. Some even wondered if the aging superstar could pull a Brett Favre. This by forcing his way to another NFC North rival so he can stick it to his former team.
How crazy would it be if he wore a Bears uniform? Fans eventually forgot about that, knowing it wasn’t going to happen. Then the 2021 offseason hit and the rift between Rodgers and the Packers has only seemed to grow. Enough to where there is a genuine possibility he’s traded. Where it gets even crazier? Chicago actually called Green Bay to inquire about what it might cost if Rodgers were indeed available.
Yes, really.
Tyler Dunne of Go Long spoke about the Packers’ situation on his recent podcast. From everything he has gather, it appears Rodgers has no plans to return unless the current front office is fired. When the conversation shifted to the Bears, he revealed how GM Ryan Pace sent out feelers on any and all QBs that might be available from Deshaun Watson to Russell Wilson, Ben Roethlisberger, and even Rodgers.
It’s so crazy to think about. There is no way in hell the Packers would ever make such a deal. Then again statements like that have been made a lot in the NFL only to be completely proven false. It never hurts to ask. You might be shocked by the reply you get. Remember that Drew Bledsoe and Donovan McNabb were both traded to division rivals in the past. So it isn’t entirely ludicrous, though neither of them was coming off an MVP season.

Bears will be content to have Aaron Rodgers out of the division
It certainly looks like things are headed that way. Green Bay isn’t going to fire the team president and/or GM just because one player wants them to. The precedent that would set in the NFL would be astronomical. Soon other players would feel they can do the same thing. There is no way the Packers will ever grant Rodgers’ wish no matter how great he is. That leaves two courses of action. Either they trade him or he sits out the season.
Either way, it would be great news for the Bears. With Rodgers out of the picture, Green Bay’s stranglehold on the NFC North immediately vanishes. They become mortal like everybody else.
It is an even playing field.
One that gives Chicago a huge opportunity to win the division and make the playoffs. To say nothing of their future hopes after drafting Justin Fields back in April. With Aaron Rodgers gone, is it possible they might have the best QB in the division within the next two or three years? That would be a crazy turn of events. Some might even say poetic justice for three decades of torment.
