Another Bears Insider Claims The Luke Getsy Decision Is Already Made

-

The Chicago Bears have gone radio silent since the end of the 2023 season in Green Bay. Nobody was surprised by this. There were clues for days leading up to the game that GM Ryan Poles and team president Kevin Warren would take some time to collect information before making decisions on whether any changes were needed. Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune kicked things off with a bang. He stated that while the fate of head coach Matt Eberflus remains uncertain, one thing was clear. Offensive coordinator Luke Getsy is not returning.

That chorus just grew considerably louder. Courtney Cronin of ESPN covers the Bears. She appeared on Waddle & Silvy to discuss what is happening at Halas Hall. Like Biggs, she can’t say for sure what will happen to Eberflus. However, like Biggs, she also sounded pretty adamant that Getsy won’t be back. Presuming that is the case, it also means quarterback Justin Fields won’t be back either. The Bears won’t want to reset him with a third offensive coordinator in his fourth season. It would be a complete offensive reboot.

Luke Getsy didn’t make the progress he needed to.

People gave him a pass in 2022 because it was his first season at the helm, and the Bears had stripped the roster down while attempting to rebuild. However, expectations were raised this season for obvious reasons. The offensive line was improved. Wide receiver D.J. Moore came over from Carolina. It wasn’t unreasonable to expect better results. Ultimately, the Bears went from 32nd in passing to 27th. Fields didn’t make the big strides people hoped for, and it wasn’t hard to see Getsy’s uninspired play-calling played a part in that.

The only question remaining is whether Eberflus should be held accountable for his hiring. He was the one who made the push to acquire the former Packers passing game coordinator. This was despite zero play-calling experience in his background. Eberflus felt Luke Getsy had the expertise in the right type of offense he wanted to run and the ability to teach younger players. While the offensive coordinator has had some decent moments, he’s been consistently outmatched by more prominent coaches.

The Bears talk about needing to have higher standards. Well, if that’s true, then dumping Getsy is the obvious move.

I get paid more than $140 to $170 per hour for working online. I heard about this job 3 months ago and after joining this I have earned easily $10k from this without having online working skills. Simply give it a shot on the accompanying site…

eec-JMHO- Fields’ stats are skewed because he is a see it thrower. His completion percentage will always be higher because he doesn’t risk it. Some would say, “Then, no biscuit.”

@jmscooby I understand the concern about injuries with QBs but I think that “unnecessary hits” is a term whose meaning is changing in the league. I just pulled up a CBS article with a list of 16 QBs to miss games due to injury and only 3 were dual threats. That probably is in proportion to the number of QBs who run a lot, so I am not so sure there is a big risk factor there. I am not locked into a dual threat, if Mahomes were to suddenly become available, I would want our offense to switch to… Read more »

@scooby… McCarthy really played well. I’ve only seen him play 4 times this year. The other 3 games I felt kinda “meh” about him. But last night I felt impressed. He was very cool/calm/confident. And very accurate with the ball. The better team def won.

It’s kinda crazy that McCarthy averaged 22 pass attempts a game during a NC season.
