Allen Robinson Predicts This Bears Teammate Will Have a Big 2020

-

The Chicago Bears got a lot of career-worst performances from players in 2019. It’s a big reason why their 8-8 finish was so disappointing. That said, optimism is reigning at Halas Hall. The team seems committed to making sure what happened last year isn’t repeated. To make sure of that, they’ll need everybody from the offense to the defense to step up. Including some of the younger guys elevating their game to the next level. Allen Robinson knows this just like everybody else.

Robinson was pretty much the only good thing about the Bears offense last season. He had over 1,100 yards with seven touchdowns and was a constant source of comfort for Mitch Trubisky. While he’s more than earned the contract extension that is coming his way, he can’t be expected to carry things alone. Others need to help. During a Q&A session for The Athletic, he was asked by a fan which overlooked teammate will end up making a splash this coming season.

His answer didn’t need a lot of letters to convey.

Allen Robinson is right to believe in David Montgomery

For some reason, a lot of fans weren’t happy with David Montgomery’s rookie season. Most likely it’s because he averaged just 3.7 yards per carry. They conveniently ignore the fact Jordan Howard, who they didn’t want to leave, averaged 3.7 in 2018. Montgomery’s limited amount of big runs last season was less about him not being talented and more about how poor the run blocking was by the Bears offensive line. It was a constant issue all season long and something head coach Matt Nagy alluded to on multiple occasions.

Yet in spite of that, Montgomery was still quite productive. He finished with 1,074 yards from scrimmage and scored seven touchdowns. Considering he was a 3rd round rookie playing with a highly erratic quarterback? Those are strong numbers. If he can get more consistent QB play along with even a little better blocking up front? Then Robinson is correct. The 2020 season could end up being a breakout campaign for him.
