Abdul Carter? Smoke Growing Bears Might Be Trying To Pull A Blockbuster

-

Ryan Poles has made aggressive trades before, but nothing that could be considered a true blockbuster. His biggest was giving up 2nd round picks for Chase Claypool and Montez Sweat, but nothing beyond that. Most people don’t expect the Chicago Bears to go crazy in this draft. There are rumors of them exploring a move up for running back Ashton Jeanty, but it’s hard to say how serious that is. So, one can imagine it was a surprise when the name Abdul Carter suddenly surfaced over the past couple of days.

Everybody knows the Penn State pass rusher is going in the top three of this draft. One can imagine it was odd when Drew Rosenhaus, Carter’s agent, revealed the Bears wanted him to visit them. He refused, knowing he wouldn’t be getting out of the top four. With them picking 10th, it would be a pointless waste of time.

The only way that could change was if the Bears traded up.

Well, two of the most notable profiles on Twitter (X) with accurate info delivered a surprising update. SlickRickScoops revealed the Bears have been calling the New York Giants about the #3 pick. Thus far, there hasn’t been any headway in talks. SearSTower confirmed this.

Abdul Carter would be amazing. Sadly, it’s unlikely.

Most people agree he is arguably the best prospect in this class. Only Heisman winner Travis Hunter is comparable. Many have compared Abdul Carter to another former Penn State star, Micah Parsons. Another name mentioned is Von Miller. Dennis Allen coached the future Hall of Famer in Denver. One can imagine he’s drooling at the possibility of working with Carter. Alas, it appears the Giants recognize what they have. Everybody believes they will draft the young edge rusher at #3, presuming Hunter goes to Cleveland at #2 as expected. You can’t fault the Bears for at least placing phone calls. The worst answer they could get was no. If the Giants were open to the idea, it could’ve led to something wild. Instead, it appears they are content to sit back and see how things play out.
