The Bears and cornerback Kyler Gordon reached an agreement Sunday evening on a three-year, $40 million contract extension that includes $31.25 million guaranteed. The deal makes Gordon the NFL’s highest-paid slot corner and keeps him in Chicago through the 2028 season. Here are a few thoughts on GM Ryan Poles securing an extension for Gordon, his first-ever draft pick back in 2022.
1. Money Well Spent
Kyler Gordon is just 25 years old and still improving. Making him the league’s highest-paid slot corner might raise “some” eyebrows now, but this deal will age well as the market continues to reset. It also sends a clear message that the Bears value him highly. In the long run, this is just good business.

2. Players Will Take Notice
First it was Cole Kmet. Then Jaylon Johnson. Now Kyler Gordon. Ryan Poles continues to reward homegrown talent that produces on the field and does things the right way. This kind of consistency sends a strong message to the locker room: if you work hard and perform, you’ll be taken care of. That’s how you build a healthy culture.

3. A Premier Cornerback Duo Locked In
Both Jaylon Johnson and Kyler Gordon are 25 and now under contract with the Bears for the foreseeable future. That gives Chicago a rock-solid foundation at cornerback, and credit goes to Poles for locking up a premier young tandem.

4. Gordon Is a Fan Favorite
Bears fans have had plenty to celebrate this offseason — from the hiring of Ben Johnson to improvements along the offensive line. Locking in Kyler Gordon was another big item on their wish list. Morale is already high, and moves like this only keep the momentum going. If this trend continues, Ashton Jeanty just might fall into Chicago’s lap at pick No. 10.

Signing Kyler is definitely better than deporting him to El Salvador with no due process. Great work Poles.
