The Chicago Bears suffered a humiliating defeat, losing 41-10 to the Kansas City Chiefs. Their current record stands at 0-3, but how they lost in KC makes it feel even worse, almost like they are 0-17 (that’s possible too). Unfortunately, I attended the game and had pretty good seats to witness this hilarious loss. So here are my three key observations from Arrowhead.
Matt Eberflus has lost the locker room
I was sitting in section 102, right by the 50-yard line on the visiting team’s side. I had a clear view and could somewhat hear how the team was feeling during the game. Right from the start, it was evident that the team lacked energy. It seemed like they were already aware of the expected outcome. Many players were shaking their heads and wearing blank expressions. Justin Fields appeared stunned and even got into an exchange with some fans near my section. Admittedly, those fans were crossing the line with what they were saying to the Bears sideline. However, as the game concluded, it was evident that the players had mentally checked out. It appears that Eberflus has lost control of the locker room, and I’m not sure if he can regain it.
Luke Getsy is in over his head
Kansas City’s defense, particularly their defensive line, performed very well. Chicago’s offensive line however, had a tough day and Justin Fields did not help them out. There were several instances during offensive possessions when Chicago’s offense seemed confused to the extent that it became a consistent issue. As an example, take a look at Adam Hoge’s screenshot of a 2-on-4 bubble screen, which is so bad it’s hilarious. Watching this offense in action, and then switching over to watch Patrick Mahomes, was actually quite mind-boggling. The Chiefs did things with ease and they had Matt Nagy on the sideline calling plays. I even swear I seen him laughing a few times throughout the game. Luke Getsy will be the first to go and the fact I am saying that would have been crazy to think 3 months ago.
The Bears Might Not Win A Game
I’m uncertain if this team has hit the lowest point yet in the season, but this is an incredibly bad spot to be in three games in. The Bears are performing terribly, and I genuinely think they could be the worst in the NFL right now. It’s crazy to say that, even after the Denver Broncos had 70 points scored against them this week by the Dolphins, the Bears are still considered 2.5-point underdogs when we play them next week at home. The recent game against the Chiefs was, in my opinion, the worst I’ve ever witnessed in person. It’s possible that I’m overreacting, but I’m beginning to doubt if the Bears will ever be the favored team in any game for the rest of this season. They were that bad.
