3 Big Takeaways On Chicago Bears Signing TE Gerald Everett

-

The Chicago Bears made another addition to their roster during Tuesday afternoon’s free agency period. They once again focused on the offensive side of the ball by signing former Los Angeles Chargers tight end, Gerald Everett. Here are my three big takeaways from this signing, along with my way too early grade.

Ryan Poles nailed the contract

Here are the details of Gerald Everett’s contract:

It’s a 2-year deal worth $12 million, potentially reaching up to $14 million, with $6.1 million guaranteed.

This deal places him as the 21st highest-paid tight end in the NFL. While he has shown potential to be a borderline TE1, he’ll likely serve as TE2 behind Cole Kmet in Chicago. Overall, I like the player but love the contract.

Gerald Everett has history with OC Shane Waldron

Gerald Everett played for Shane Waldron in both LA and Seattle. So this deal makes a lot of sense for both sides. This move really pairs well with Waldron’s offense. So get ready to see more 12 personnel, which Waldron previously used in Seattle.

Brock Bowers is likely off the Bears draft board

In my opinion, I feel that the recent signing of Everett makes it very unlikely that they would draft Brock Bowers, even if all the wide receivers are off the board by the time they pick at number 9. If Bowers is available, I believe the Bears might prefer to trade back and acquire more draft capital. The Bears do only have 5 picks in 2024 even though the value on those picks are high. But call it a gut feeling, considering this signing should strengthen the Bears tight end room.

Final Grade: B+

Yes, good player, great contract. I think Everett wanted to get on a rising team, and reunite with Waldron.
