It appears that Nicolas Beaudin has decided to officially make the jump to professional hockey. Beaudin, the 27th overall selection in the 2018 NHL Entry Draft, has spent the last four seasons with the Drummondville Voltigeurs of the QMJHL. He is considered one of the Blackhawks top defensive prospects.
Earlier this afternoon, the Rockford IceHogs announced that they signed Kris Versteeg to a one-year, AHL level contract. The former two-time Stanley Cup champion last played in the NHL back in the 2017-18 season with the Calgary Flames.
For the second consecutive year, Patrick Kane will serve as captain of the 2019 U.S. Men's National Team at the IIHF World Championship. Kane could also be joined by Blackhawks teammates Alex DeBrincat, Brandon Saad, and Connor Murphy.
Despite having the 12th-worst record in the NHL, the Blackhawks managed to come out of the draft lottery with the 3rd overall selection. While Jack Hughes and Kaapo Kakko are without a doubt the top two picks, the rest of the top 10 is a mystery. With so many options on the table, who should the Blackhawks select with the 3rd pick in the 2019 Draft?
Earlier this morning, the rumors swirling around former Blackhawks Head Coach Joel Quenneville became official. Coach Q will return to the NHL next season after signing a five-year contract with the Florida Panthers. Hopefully, the Chicago Blackhawks will be making some big splashes of their own this offseason.
The Chicago Blackhawks have recalled defenseman Dennis Gilbert from the Rockford IceHogs of the AHL. Although his offensive numbers aren't too impressive, Gilbert holds an advantage being a more physical, stay-at-home defenseman. Gilbert may be stuck in the logjam of bottom-pairing blue-liners the Blackhawks currently have, but his style of play could earn him some playing time next season.
The Chicago Blackhawks playoff hopes are all but over after being blanked by Darcy Kuemper and the Arizona Coyotes on Tuesday night. The offense struggled once again to create quality scoring chances, and for the sixth straight game, they scored two goals or fewer. The Blackhawks had an opportunity to pick up a crucial two points in the desert, but they managed to come up short with the season on the line
After recording an assist last Wednesday night in Toronto, Erik Gustafsson became just the third Blackhawk defenseman to record 50 points in a season since 1996. Despite the rocky ride of a season, Gustafsson has proved to be one of the most offensively skilled defensemen in the NHL. He has certainly made the most of his opportunity this year, and hopefully, he'll continue to improve defensively with experience.
