Another former Chicago pitcher has usurped the throne as the fastest to 1,500 k’s.
Still wearing Sox but a different color, Chris Sale has just become the fastest to reach 1,500 k’s in major league history.
The previous record holder? Chicago Cubs great Kerry Wood.
Chris Sale just reached the milestone with his third strikeout of the game, coming in the second inning courtesy of Toronto Blue Jay’s outfielder Kevin Pillar.
Sale accomplished the feat in ten fewer innings than Wood, 1,290 as compared to 1,300, respectively.
A favorite to FINALLY win the Cy Young award, something that eluded him year in and year out on the South Side– Sale entered Tuesday night’s game in Toronto with a 14-6 record, a 2.88 ERA and an MLB-best 253 strikeouts.
1,247 of his career strike outs came as a member of the Chicago White Sox.
Congratulations Chris.
