On Saturday August 5, former NHL players, Blackhawks past and present as well as local personalities will participate in a hockey game to benefit Special Olympics Chicago. The Chicago Hockey Charity Classic will take place at Fox Valley Ice Arena in Geneva at 3pm.
The event was set up by Topher Scott who grew up in the hockey community and has two brothers with special needs. Scott who has already helped raise over $50,000 said, “It’s a cause near and dear to my heart.” The goal is to sell out the 3,000 seat arena and raise over $100,000 in total. Tickets are $25 and can be purchased here, but hurry because they are going fast.
Among the notable names participating in the game are Patrick Kane, Ed Olczyk and Vinnie Hinostroza. Hinostroza who is a Chicagoland native reminisced about going to Marklan Home as a kid. It’s a home for kids with special needs and he feels that they deserve opportunities like everyone else.
Hinostroza went on to say, “Being able to play for the Hawks last year and now being able to grow the game and grow charities and help out whatever way I can, it’s what I want to do. Guys always did that when I was younger. I’ve learned from the best and I just wanted to help give back.”
Seeing players of this caliber is inspiring and the event is sure to be fun and bring a lot of smiles to people’s faces.
