The Mitch Trubisky training camp buzz is off and running. Now before going any further it is acknowledged that one practice does not an NFL career make. There will be different, worse days. It’s just part of being a quarterback. Nonetheless, first impressions can mean a lot. In that regard the #2 overall pick made sure he came prepared for his first salvo in the Bears quarterback battle.
Things started out odd with the practice start being moved up due to inclement weather projections. Trubisky didn’t seem to mind. Based on multiple accounts the quarterback was sharp throughout the drills. Routinely he was able to fit the ball in tight windows on both short and long passes. It’s not like the defense was making it easy either.
In the end the rookie looked like he belonged out there.

Mitch Trubisky training camp progress about to get serious
It’s best to think of this first practice as the pop quiz. The team just got going and were running around in shorts. No doubt people want to see how Trubisky fairs when the pads go on. He also got his fill against largely depth players at second or third string positions. The coaches are likely to shift him up against the starters at some point.
Suffice to say there is still plenty of prove to do. At the same time there hasn’t been this level of positive buzz about a quarterback in training camp for years. Jay Cutler would have streaks of solid play but always killed the enthusiasm with some ugly interceptions. A perfect reflection of his actual career.
Perhaps the same will hold true for Trubisky. In that case it’s hard not to feel excited about these early impressions. It only makes you want to see more. To see if he can do it again.
