Last night marked the 11th straight home opener that I’ve been to since I moved to Chicago in 2006 and it was full of memories that will last a lifetime. I was lucky enough to get to witness the Cubs raise three championship banners, I saw the first walk-off win of 2017, and I got a chance to see those SICK gold uniforms in person.
All of those things were put on hold around 6 pm when the Cubs announced that the banner raising ceremony would be delayed due to some impending rain. I’ve waited my entire life to get the chance to watch the Cubs raise a championship banner so I was absolutely fine with waiting another hour or so before the ceremonies started.
As I was sitting in the bleachers with my buddy, a light rain started to fall. I didn’t want to lose my seat five rows up from the basket in left field so like a couple of idiots, we decided to stay put and continue to drink.
Much to my surprise, our conversation (and drinking) were interrupted by a jumbo-tron version of “Dancing With The Stars” starring none other than former Cub, David Ross.
I’ll admit, at the time I thought it was on tape delay or possibly a former episode from earlier in the season so I didn’t pay much attention to it. However, the more I looked around at my fellow bleacher mates, I could tell that what they were watching was something they hadn’t seen before. I didn’t find out until later that night that the Cubs decided to show it live for the Wrigley faithful bravely waiting out the rain delay.
David Ross may have had his hand in getting the Cubs to show his new dance routine.
.@Cubs if there is a rain delay tonight what do you think? https://t.co/yNvgJK8gR9

We watched Ross hop and skip around the dance floor but the highlight of the night was when the judges began to give their opinions on Ross’ routine. I have no idea what the judges names are or what they exactly do but what I do know is when they didn’t give Ross exemplary remarks, Cubs fans began to boo and scream at the judges like it was part of the actual game they paid money to see.
When one of the judges said Ross was “skipping too much,” a grown man behind me turned to the video board and screamed,
“SHUT THE HELL UP BUDDY! WHAT DO YOU KNOW ABOUT DANCING!?”
Seriously.
Even the Cubs players couldn’t take their eyes off of the left field video board.

As I was listening to people boo and cheer for Ross, it dawned on me — they’re showing “Dancing With The Stars” on the fucking video board at Wrigley Field.
Now THAT’S when you know that you’ve been fully embraced by Cubs fans.
