The Chicago Bears have admitted they aren’t sure what will happen when the NFL draft kicks off on April 24th. GM Ryan Poles said he hasn’t been able to pinpoint what the nine teams picking in front of him will do. That is mostly because this class is light on true blue-chip talent. That means general managers will lean on personal preference more than usual, making the prediction of picks more difficult. Adam Schefter provided some much-needed clarification on what is to come.
He informed the Pat McAfee Show of some important updates. Most expect the Tennessee Titans to take Miami quarterback Cam Ward #1 overall. There has also been a shift with Cleveland at #2, who now seem inclined to take Heisman winner Travis Hunter of Colorado. Were that to happen, it appears the New York Giants will secure Penn State pass rusher Abdul Carter at #3. That leaves one huge question unanswered. Where does Colorado QB Shadeur Sanders land?
Schefter believes two teams are in play, and both would be good news for the Bears.
Adam Schefter paints a positive picture for the Bears.
If the New Orleans Saints take him at #9 overall, that ensures at least one of the non-quarterback players on Chicago’s board will slip to the #10 spot, giving them more options. On the flip side, if Sanders gets past New Orleans, that means the Bears could potentially have a very interested Pittsburgh Steelers team looking to trade up to get him. Their best quarterback at the moment is Mason Rudolph. The Aaron Rodgers wait continues, and there’s been little movement for weeks. They need a long-term solution. Are they willing to risk waiting for 11 more picks in hopes Sanders falls to them? Moving up makes more sense. Either way, what Adam Schefter revealed is notable. He predicted Michael Penix could go to Atlanta at #8 last year. This timing can’t be a coincidence.
