The new league year took effect at 3:00 p.m. CST on March 12th. At the same time, Chicago Bears GM Ryan Poles and new head coach Ben Johnson met with the media to discuss the team’s flurry of activity over the previous few days. Their objective was obvious: to improve the toughness, intelligence, and energy on both sides of the line of scrimmage. One of the key moves that came with this approach was trading for veteran guard Jonah Jackson for a 6th round pick.
The 28-year-old had parlayed a strong run with the Detroit Lions into a lucrative contract with the Los Angeles Rams last season. Unfortunately, various setbacks saw him lose his starting job after only playing four games. Poles was asked what the Bears’ assessment of what happened was. From his perspective, the Rams switching him to center didn’t help matters. Then Johnson, unprompted, felt the need to chime in with a comment as well. It sure sounds like the head coach has some lingering irritation at how the Rams treated Jackson.
Ben Johnson clearly believes Jackson has plenty to offer.
He would know. The guard was excellent during his two seasons playing for the former offensive coordinator in Detroit. Yes, the health issues are well-documented. Jackson must stay on the field to prove anything. Still, Ben Johnson almost declared his intent to show everybody that the mighty Sean McVay blew it by not utilizing him properly. Jackson will handle the right guard spot this upcoming season. He and Darnell Wright should create a formidable combination in the running game, which is a big reason Johnson is putting them together. One thing is certain. If Jackson regains his form from a couple of years ago, that trade will look like highway robbery for the Bears.
@BearDownTX, Warrens 40 time in underwear doesn’t matter. Can he play? Can he get open? Can he block? .015 difference might be worlds apart in underwear but not so much in pads. Ask Travice Kelce’s 4.61
I’m going to paraphrase my guy Ben ”when a certain blocking scheme is working we’re going to continue to use it”. He obviously has a masters degree from University of Keep it Simple Stupid. I’m running the ball with this package, let me switch it up on 3rd and1. No! Get cute when it’s safer to be cute. Why is this so difficult to understand. Getsy didn’t get it when he had Fields’ unreal talent as a runner. Waldron didn’t get it when he had a rookie QB. Watching the little looks between Poles and Johnson was telling to me.… Read more »
Some in here get a little over-excited and fluff the facts. Is Tyler Warren a stud? Yes! Is he faster than Brock Bowers? Not even close. Bowers ran a 4.53, and Warren is 4.68. That’s worlds apart. Still, he is the best TE in this class, but he wouldn’t have been in last year’s draft. I like him a lot and can see Ben Johnson utilizing him in so many ways. Truly wouldn’t be upset if they drafted him at 10, I just don’t see it happening.
I guess I missed the Ben “pissed” part in that clip about treatment. Literally all he said is that he’s a pro bowl caliber guard and that’s what we’re gona get out of him. Hopefully he’s right, but odd article header. Gotta say tho, when Ben says something u just kinda believe him lol. He’s so dam confident and matter of fact.
I think we can all agree that health with this O Line is paramount in order to get the most out of them. The line is a unit who all work together and build chemistry. It’s been years since we’ve retained a healthy line for the most part. If this front 5, that we have currently, stays healthy for the most part for the year, then it has the ability to become a top 10 or 12 Offensive line.
