With the White Sox expected to be one of the worst teams in the major leagues again, White Sox fans can direct their attention to the minor leagues, as the White Sox have put together a very solid minor league farm system, one that has gained top-5 hype.
MLB Pipeline released their updated top-30 prospect lists for each team and the White Sox had some intriguing changes. Let’s take a look to see how the 2024 list compares to the new 2025 list.
The top-6 remain the same, as on MLB Pipeline, Noah Schultz, Kyle Teel, Hagen Smith, Colson Montgomery, Braden Montgomery, and Edgar Quero are all top-70 prospects in all of baseball. However, after the top-6 is where things begin to change.
Slotting in at the 7th spot is Grant Taylor, who moves up two spots. This should be no surprise, as he has started to creep up onto top-100 boards on other websites and should be on the MLB Pipeline list by midseason.
Ranked 8th is Chase Meidroth who moves up 5 spots from 13 on the 2024 list. He is one of the biggest risers on the list, and for good reason, as he could be the Opening Day second basemen.
Jairo Iriarte and George Wolkow rank 9th and 10th respectively, both dropping just one or two spots from the 2024 list. This wasn’t due to poor performances by them, it was due to other good players joining the organization.
Outside of the top-10, there was some significant movement. Ky Bush fell from 11th on the 2024 list to 22 on the 2025 list. Samuel Zavala, one of the main pieces in the Dylan Cease trade fell completely off the 2025 list, as he was ranked 20th on the 2024 list.
Nick Nastrini took a tumble on the new list, as he went from the 21st ranked prospect to the 27th ranked prospect. Last year was a lost year, but he should be back on track this year to contribute at some point.
Pitcher Seth Keener also fell off the list, as he was ranked 24th on the 2024 list. This was an interesting decision by whoever makes the list, as he had a very solid year in Kannapolis. He should find his way back on to the list by midseason.
On the plus side, there was some significant positive movement for some players. Juan Carela jumped from 29 to 21 on the new list. Sean Burke jumped from number 30 to 13, the most significant movement of any player on the list.
Two new players were added to the list, as Javier Mogollon jumped from not ranked to 25th on the list, while Alejandro Cruz, one of their newest international signings, slotted into 30th on the list.
It is always interesting to see how MLB Pipeline makes changes from year to year, as they love to switch things up. The White Sox farm system has gotten significantly better over the last year, as according to MLB Pipeline, there are 14 players on the list that have joined the organization over the last year. If the White Sox hit on some of the one year deals and a Robert trade at the deadline, an already strong farm system could catapult into best in the league.
